Mac Miller - Balloonerism | FIRST REACTION

Comments

hey, really enjoyed this video! thanks for sharing. i wanted to get your thoughts/ask if you picked up on the human development aspect of a few songs. starting in funny papers, we hear mac say a line about bringing a baby with bright eyes into a dark world. in excelsior, he touches on the naivety of childhood. then in transformations, we see a sillier side of mac, aka “delusional thomas”. he mentions a fart joke, thespians, and football, which gave me the impression of teenage years. finally, in manakins, we hear him question freedom and says he is seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. this made me think about how as we get older, we start to understand the world and be more realistic. so, over the course of 4 songs in a row, we visit different stages of life and development. i may be overthinking it, but i work in the psychology field, so it stuck out to me. anyways, just wanted to share and hear your thoughts. i hope u have a good day. i know mac is having one somewhere

I Have a theory that Friendly Hallucinations and Mrs Deborah downer are part 1 and 2 of a story. FH is Mac telling a story about a girl first experiencing the fun effects of drugs. Mac switches back to first person throughout the track almost encouraging her to keep experimenting. He tells her it’s ok to keep falling. It is lighthearted and happy which makes it seem like less of a problem than it is. The song ends with him saying she was taken to doctor probably by parents who are very concerned with the girls new behavior, but she refuses help not having the “patience to be a good patient” Then onto Deborah Downer: Much more depressing vibe. Completely opposite of FH sonically, with the story taking place currently, both of them now strung out and dependent on drugs. It’s no longer a fun experiment. Macs asking her to crush the pills down with him in the hook. Then the 2nd verse starts more upbeat with Mac talking about cleaning up a bit after he loses his friend due to his behavior in the first verse. The song ends with a girl (the same girl from FH) putting in an insane drug order with Mac asking her how shes going to afford all of that now that the money is coming slow. Maybe alluding that he’s off hard drugs and no longer buying them for her.

you guys should check out Divine Feminine if you haven't (dont think you have) super dope instrumentals and an all around great jazzy type vibe

Pattynuts22

Appreciate the vulnerability yall show! On top of the talent.

Modern Bowling

Mrs Deborah Downer is just a funny way to say “Debbie downer” which is a person who always has bad news, someone who can never just focus on the positives

" Didn't think anyone died on a Friday." September 7 2018 was on a Friday.

So a little Mac lore. He was good friends with Rick Rubin and Rick owns a famous house/studio out in Malibu called Shangri La. Mac recorded music there sometimes and some of the piano on the album was recordings from Rick’s house thus Rick’s piano. Right before the Devine feminine Rick Rubin helped Mac get sober and taught him things like meditation.

Larry Fisherman

Love the video fellas. Yall should watch the animated movie the family made that goes with the album. It’s on prime video

Larry Fisherman

would love to hear a recap from you guys a few weeks from now. I had already heard and loved all the leaks and this project still continues to grow on me now it has released, I would love to see what else you guys also notice/catch after sitting on the project for a bit as well as where it fits in his discography for you.

Ryan

You guys should find the delusional thomas project too. think its floating around on youtube still

Davey Crocket

Dion Byrne

Michael Young

funny papers is the one. glad y’all really took to that one too

Jon

Also, the mentioning of Rick Ruben is due to Mac spending a month in Rick Rubens mansion named "Shanri la" in Malibu getting clean and making music. Rubin helped him with that and also co produced some of his later music on Swimming and Circles.

Michel van Eck

The line on "Funny Papers" when he said: "Didn't think anybody died on a Friday"...Mac died on a Friday...

Michel van Eck

I think what's unique about mac is I don't imagine most great rappers are heroine addicts. He's got like a jimi hendrix one of a kind bond with the music.

leon harbin

Let's fall asleep to the metronome, as in lets nod to the beat (nod off due to drugs)

Xenolithic

when the tape originally leaked it had said that this project was supposed to come out if he died young

Marquis

Watching Movies with the Sound Off is special.

k

There’s a whole mixtape called Delusional Thomas

Nico

Yall should check some of his freestyles

Anthony

Delusional Thomas is Mac Miller's alter ego, which he uses to represent an opposite side of himself. The Aramaic origin of the word Thomas means "Twin". Thomas being his alter ego is intentionally vulgar, dark, and twisted. It's also where some of his most insane and off-the-wall bars come from. Mac Miller released a full mixtape named Delusional Thomas which, admittedly, is some of his best work Barwise, but it's a pretty graphic album. It's worth a listen though. Someone once described it as, if Faces was Mac Miller on a good trip Delusional Thomas is a representation of what a bad trip is on drugs.

On friendly hallucinations: … the land you put your knees on (Nissan), it won’t be long till your path finds ya (Pathfinder…. Nissan Pathfinder) 🔥🔥

CartoCollective

Here we go! Couldn't click the notification fast enough

Stefan

Let's goooo, been waiting all day for this. I hope on the deluxe they release Bob dementia. The bars on there were insane but I can see why they removed it from the initial release. Mac was wildin on the track
