Frank Ocean - Blonde | AOTM Reaction

Comments

What you said about 3k is crazy because my theory has always been that the reason Frank hasn’t released an album yet is because he needs 3k on it. Andre has been on both of his albums and if he’s not in a head space to create vocal pieces, Frank can’t finish his album! Or it’s more than likely just a hard cope on my part 😂

Teddy Grey

the euphoric feeling that i got when this album clicked for me, is something that i expect to never be replicated again, this album explodes with imagery and colours.

Hiro Utting

You guys might know this already, but the beat switch on Nights and the beat switch on Pyramids on Channel Orange are the exact mid points of their respective albums

Nick Ratliff

Someone who could take 10 years and then drop and it would still do numbers: D’Angelo Lauryn Hill Andre 3000 Adele Kanye if he wanted to But the list is thinnnn

Gaurav U

Words couldn't even describe how much i love Andre's solo(reprise). It would went diamond solely because of me.

stella.

First listened to this album a few years after it dropped on a trip to new orleans with a long drive and it forever has a special place for me. It just connects me to the experience I had there.

Maxwell569

I love this reaction, hopefully, you guys will do more rnb or pop album reactions and revisits in the future

K

Great comment because I was gonna say Sza has music pre blonde (her mixtape Z for example) but after this when she dropped CTRL and then SOS you can hear the clear Frank influence. I will say tho you can hear the Kanye influence in Frank (specifically 808s) so he's the real influence for everyone which we already knew lol

Demeterius Benton

I'm with Prince on Frank dropping again. Yeah he hasn't dropped in a really long time I get it. But I feel like as an artist, there's no way Frank hasn't been working on something.

Joshua Nguyen

This was dope as an avid hip hop listener this was refreshing looking forward to move of these.Classic album for sure.

ATP

Wither top 3 frank songs

Zion

also, Endless is an amazing album itself (and favored by me over Blonde). the visual was a tongue in cheek move bc he knew the project was too vague and ambient for most ppl. the looong stream of him constructing an endless staircase is indicating the albums themes of time passing, but also intentionally showcasing a pointless/"endless" project with lots of work but no discernable goal, much like life. so, he gave sony that one and took blonde for himself cause it makes way more money to this day. its still hard to find endless bc of these copyright discrepancies, but its 30-40~ min and I'd highly recommend. amazing high/on psychs too

Y'all missed it on Nikes, the high pitch on the beginning was explained with "Let you guys prophecize, we gon see the future first." We saw/heard the "future" first with a robotic/alien voice. Albums full of Poetry, not just bars!

ⒶnDy

Frank would definitely give us new sounds and vibes… check out “Provider” by him. It was released post-Blonde as a single and I’ve never heard anything like it. Dudes in a league of his own…

Spencer

Yo if yall ain't heard Nostalgia Ultra that one is holy as well. Shoutout to Vibevilla!! (If yall need me I'll be here waiting patiently for them RTJ ones)

Jakob Blom

The song Prince was thinking of that seemed similar from a Kanye album is Lost In The World from MBDTF

Itz Zay

Great reaction! The only people who have been away a long time and could drop today and get the same kind of response as frank is 3K (not flute 3K, rapper 3K) and Sade. I would love for y'all to react to more non-rap hip hop. Or maybe you could do a video with your favorite non-rap albums?

Tamara Pearson

Close to you samples stewie Wonder playing like a flute or some, you should check it, really cool sample

SIMO

There is a snippet of Frank covering / singing Sza’s ‘The weekend’. He posted it on his IG many years ago

Dee

Frank’s lyrics are vivid - they create imagery and evoke feelings that make you feel a type of way even though you may not have experienced what he is singing about, very similar to how Kendrick’s lyrics make you feel. Great comparison

Dee

it’s funny you mention SZA, cause she is ALWAYS mentioning frank and attributes a lot of her style to him. i think it goes unnoticed just how influential frank has been in rnb since his mixtape.

James Nash

Also, the pitched up vocals in some songs (like Nikes and Ivy) relate to moments when he sings from the perspective of his younger self

Dee

For context to the conversation y’all had during “Skyline To” @ around 32:45 Frank has been taking time away from the music industry specifically because he had a close death in his family around 2019 or 2020. If I’m not mistaken it was his brother. Died in a car crash I believe. Also y’all were saying who could wait 10 yrs and drop an album and stop the whole world: Jay Z could, also Rihanna! IMO

Mary Cannon

Frank was meant to drop an album in 2020 - he released a few singles in the lead up (In my room, DHL, Dear April) but his younger brother was killed in a car accident that year so the album was scrapped and he has mostly been away from the spotlight since

Dee

Been waiting on them to dive into that album. Such raw talent with unique delivery that you can’t get anywhere else

Hyperaware

This album means so much to me. It fit that perfect dreamy vibe when you’re basically a kid still figuring shit out, falling in love but having your own dreams and aspirations. This takes me back to being 17 not knowing wtf was going on but appreciating everyone and everything around me . Frank Ocean has a lot of complex lyrics and nuances to his music like a similar way Kendrick does. The beat switch in Nights perfectly bisects the album’s runtime.

Hyperaware

Would be amazing if y’all could react to Leon Thomas- MUTT the album

Mary Cannon

need more like this

Pritz

If u want an artist that gives a similar sound and feeling this artist named Dijon makes very beautiful music!! Very talented!!

Fox Boy

honestly this album, views and both dave albums sums up my adolescence its crazy how music can be interweaved in your memory

babo

was listening to it the other day thinking these two would really appreciate what flatbush did with that album, concept, bars, technical ability and vibes on point

Alex Olivares

Pink + white was always popular but it gained even more popularity because of tiktok. It became a huge trend and gained millions more streams

Marquis

This was a nice change up, but I’m hoping the community can agree on 3001: A Laced Odyssey. I’d love to see you guys talk about that project even if you both have heard it

Stone

we need a young thug reaction one of these months

eightseight

Been waiting on this! Didn’t think this day would come🙏

Cod3br0wn

I’m hoping for more reviews like this. You guys should check out Sampha’s Lahai. Dropped a deluxe last year

Zion

Going to be interesting to see you guys review an album like blond instead of the usual rap stuff. Cheers 🍻
