Ab-Soul - Soul Burger | FIRST REACTION

Comments

Before GNX dropped I couldn’t get away from this album. This is an un-talked about classic.

Charles Washington

go pro wasn't terrible for me but i probably won't play much at all

Gio Rico

The "stick math" line following the "kit crash/symbolic ('cymballic')" line is so sick. Crazy way to describe playing the drums.

John

"What the fuck is Lupe Fiasco anyway?" 😆

John

Yall need to peep that new ferg tape! Asap Ferg might be back!!

St. Benga

@11:30. They don't fuck with eachother like that. From the beginning. If they show up on eachother's album, it's to murder eachother lyrically and rhythmically. Like Kendrick Lamar's Interlude from These Days/ Ab Soul's Outro from Section 80. Where they turned out for one track to murder the album. But that was always Black Hippy lol..

Miki's Stopwatch

Yeah Ab and Mac was good friends too

CrysisTv

This album was Ab soul his imboding his homies, his peers, and his idols, since it was for his Bro dope burger that died. Cause his last album has everything's ya was looking for here...react to Herbert lol

CrysisTv

Don’t know if you guys noticed but righteous man beat samples Kendrick’s how much a dollar cost instrumental

Dom Howell

I, Myself & Me is one of my favorite songs I’ve heard all year, such a good album

Ezra

eminem, mobb, belly - 9 mile digital underground - all that mac - cali dream wayne - bucko jay z squeeze 1st biggie - sky limitless dot - righteous lotta homage being paid. love ab for that. preciate yall 🤝🏾

Kendall Marshall

Imagine 'Saudi Sweats' but then by Westside Gunn

Quincy Beurskens

Ab-Soul is the one who jumped off the bridge, due to excessive drug use (his words). Losing two best friends so close together will have anyone crashing out. EDIT: The switch up sample used before Souls verse in California Dreams was the same one used for Mac Millers "Here We Go" from Faces.

Xenolithic

Go pro reaction was hilarious

Adrian J

Bro where did you get the Dwight, Illinois hat? I was born there, and live like 30 minutes away now in Morris. That's crazy.

ImHigh Sorry

love the video, I’ve been playing this the past couple days and like to see y’all’s thoughts. I think this album is better with context, like other people commented it’s about his best friend doe burger who died, and the album is supposed to be music he would have liked, which probably adds layers to the feature choices and different references like the wayne tribute etc. paiday to me sounds like it could have been an extra off the black panther album peace is my favorite track. the part in the middle is ab-soul but they used AI to make it doe burgers voice, so it’s ab-soul talking to himself but from his dead friends perspective. reminds me of what kendrick did with nipsey in the heart pt 5

Lizzie

Dope vid. Not sure how the industry feels about this but this is just dope, cool to see someone like Lupe approving newer technology and moving forward.

Chill vayx

Bucko Jr. is a DIRECT homage to BM JR. from Tha Carter 1 he used the same flow, cadence and even skits. Flipped a lot of the lines on there too bro

Johnny Sensei

Fireee 🔥 Ab Soul has always been one of the jedis Btw yall should check out the Hanumankind on the radar freestyle it’s impressive

Gaurav U

im pretty sure on the track "Peace" the voice talking to ab-soul is meant to represent Doeburger telling him to get his shit together

Marquis

Bro you going to keep doing me like this

Squish Wright

that 9 mile verse with him in the b rabbit flow, he is referring to himself and his drug struggles and has said he tried to commit suicide and overcame those things

Derrick Johnson Jr.

Jouvanne Thomas

Ab Soul, Lupe Fiasco, and JID are Gods of the rap game. There are others. But those are a Big 3.

Jouvanne Thomas

The song he’s interpolating line for line on b.u.c.k.o. Jr is Bm Jr off the Carter 1

Renny

if you didn't know ahead of time this project is basically an ode to his best friend doe burger that passed a few years ago, so a lot of the album is better experienced listening to it with that in mind. I think soul did an interview last month that explains a bit more

RaitonBril

Also it sounds like on that last track there was a sample from kendrick’s how much a dollar cost

Nico

did you guys mean to skip Squeeze 1st 2? I don't remember you dropping a reaction to it in the past

Halil

When it dropped he said this album is dedicated to his homie Doeburger that passed and wanted to make an album that sounded like something his homie would enjoy 🙏🏼

Nico

on a recent interview soul mentioned that you're going to hear some stuff from him in the album that isn't actually him but him expressing/channelling "soulburger" - a salute to his best friend doeburger who passed

Halil

sound like a nav song is hilarious LMFAO

Slasherohh H

the horn sample on California Dream is the same one from Here We Go off Faces, beautiful tribute to Mac and might be where you recognized it from

Justin Elder

The beat change on California Dream when absoul started his Verse is the beat from Here we go by Mac Miller on Faces

Marquis

Vince staples has energy. He’s just that anime character that keeps his eyes half closed while breaking shit down

Jouvanne Thomas

Same!

T Redlef

Listened to this twice last night all the way through and the transitions are flawless

Angela

Idk if you watched any interview, he was saying that he is a fusion of himself and his homie that died.

Jouvanne Thomas

I hope there's a lull in drops now so we can get that CyHi reaction, because DAMN there's been a lot of good drops this year!

EricTheSwedishGuy

Solo doesn’t miss

malik2spiff MEL

Been so hyped for this fucking album

Jouvanne Thomas

I haven’t listened yet I’ve been waiting to listen with you guys

Bpinardi

Let's go. I really enjoyed this album, but I can understand if others might not vibe with it. I did appreciate that DJ Hed prefaced that this was more of a concept album, so that helped me approach it with a bit more of an open ear.

Anthony Sanchez

Let's go!
