Anders Ødegaard

In A New Day, Ransom mentions Celine Dion. When I went to add it on Spotify, the second song came up was A New Day Has Come by Celine Dion. Idk if it was intentional, but if it was, that’s 🔥

Can't wait for that LL Cool J reaction

*Accidentally pressed enter 🤦🏾‍♂️* First off, if the goal was to show the polarities of positivity and negativity, I believe a "God" figure should have made an appearance. The way Ran showed that the evil element engineered confusion/destruction but understood how to command purpose and good living, should have been balanced by a God figure that engineered creation/purpose but also understood chaos/disorder. That would have brought it full circle and illustrated an yin/yang sort of effect. Secondly, there were parts of the song that had no place. Like when the devil said "Reminds me of the story that was told by the Saint Lazarus" Then proceeds to say there are no God's in the sky or demons beneath the ground.... but uh... the Saint lazarus quite literally believed in Jesus and God who reigned Supreme from above. Also, what was the point of saying he doesn't have the strength to release this when at the beginning he admits the Devil already commended his strength for not becoming a vessel for him? And thirdly, the end when he mentions feminism, I just think that was a self inserted distaste which detracts from the potency for me. But alas, that's the end of the Ted talk, hope we can have some discussion!

What I think of Nefarious: Ransom is attempting to illustrate a few things. 1. The Devil is not a "Physical" Entity but rather an innate quality of negativity in humans. 2. The Devil is the not able to forcibly control a free thinker. 3. Lessons can be learned even from those we deem to be morally evil. This track fits well with this album as he's getting advice from the minister of chaos, meaning he's is using this as a way to ascend the ladder (assuming he's close to the bottom, it's even more substantial). Now to get on with the actual analysis. I believe Ransom may be framing this track with the same rhetoric/template reflected in the book "Outwitting the Devil" by Napoleon Hill. In this book, Hill writes about an imaginary interview he hosted with the Devil. During the interview, the two discuss topics very similar to what Ransom expounds upon in the song. This including that the Devil is the aspect of negativity, or more accurately, the "directionlessness" of humans that cause them to become drifters (people without purpose). Basically it's as the old addage goes, an idle mind is the devils playground. As well as the advice to "Think definite and make it repetitive" is the way to engineer the mind to create optimistic outcomes. As far as spiritual connotations, Ran may also be invoking some of the Hindu beliefs of Shiva. Shiva is the Hindu God of Destruction, the closest thing to Christianity's Devil. Where they differ, is that Shiva is a balancing force to the God of Creation, Brahma, and not inherently evil. Shiva simply represents all factors in opposition to positivity, kind of like the counterweight to positivity. Although, I kind of doubt that bit has a place in this song I just thought it was worth mentioning. My final thoughts: Ran seemed to want to make a song outlining the common jargon of "Think positive and your life will improve. Control your mind and control your destiny." While I like the concept and enjoy the song, I think it was a weak execution. First off

It might be a reach but I think the concept of chaos & order being a balance is why Ransom & Conway collab. Ransom is Order & Conway is Chaos. Ransom has well thought out verses that have order while Conway speaks chaos in his unorthodox flows and bars. It makes sense why the song "mid life crisis" is on here then right after "commandments" has that violence with Conway to start off.

What yall think of JPEGMAFIA? I think you'll enjoy his most recent release.

Brandon

would love to see you guys listen to ‘You Thought - Teezo Touchdown feat Janelle Monae’ on your next Vibe sesh

Faceless P

Fellas probably want to wait till it's on streaming services 😕 I haven't listened to it either 😭

Dameville

mid life crisis had me staring at the ceiling for a couple min

Brandon K Mihali

Get on that stove cooking man

Anders Ødegaard

Conway is an elite rapper. Ransom however is a God tier MC. Theres only a few that can maintain that level track for track (Roc Marci, Mach, Ka, Nas, Rome etc). In spite of the disparity Machine did his thing. This is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

LG

Been waiting on this one! Loved it from top to bottom Duffle X Machine🧳🤖

WSDoom

Sadly Conway did not show up and got washed on every track. He did good on a couple tracks but overall Conway has been in a funk with verses lately

Alex

Had to rebuke that last track ✝️

Germaine

We need a ransom Nick Grant album. I think they only have 2 tracks together but they are both perfect

Young Simba

For the next vibesesh you guys should check out Mirage by Quelle Chris, Chris Keys, Earl Sweatshirt, and Big Sen. Personally it's one of my favorite earl verses and the spoken word/rant outro is something you guys would like

Tanner

That corridor/core a door bar is wild
