I think he knew the best friend group were having some sort of argument on that day, hence why he purposely breaks them up by assigning duties to do then. He saw the photo of the best friend group were laughing and smiling happily together means that they had resolved whatever they were arguing over. So he felt great that being young like them is also one of the reasons why they are able to let their pride go and apologise to each other. Imagine being a grown adult, the pride will make it more difficult for apologies since it’s already a habit…

I love, that after 2 episodes of tension surrounding Rintaro not talking to them... to have the curtain unveiled that his hesitancy isn't even because he didn't trust his friends... it's because he felt like he had to make sure the girls were actually OKAY with him sharing their secret with his friends. The levels of respect this man has for peoples boundaries is insane. And it all gets summed up in Subaru's little response of "If Waguri is okay with it, I am... but the fact you even bothered to ask me just shows how thoughtful you are." From Subaru's perspective, Waguri is the only one he really needed to check in with... but knowing how she feels about their relationship already, he went out of his way to make sure she was okay with it too. The cherry on top of the friends, just genuinely concerned for what's going on with him, followed him and overheard his genuine feelings of trust with them being held by back by his respect for the girls opinions. So good.
