(EXTENDED) Lupe Fiasco - DRILL MUSIC IN ZION | FIRST REACTION/REVIEW

Yo I'm pretty sure I'm reaching but in the song Seattle, Lupe has that line about a lighting a fire with a thumb swipe, the first thing that came to my mind was the Tinder app as the logo is a fire but you swipe your thumb to match with someone and essentially start a convo which would be "lighting a fire" between two people. Although it doesn't connect with the context but just something I noticed.

Draco Santana

Yupp Drive slow super fire

Ok, I'm glad I saw this reaction. I know nothing about Lupe Fiasco. I need to be out on. And what other artists also have similar drill type beats?

JonZam83

One of the dopest things about this album to me is that the vibe is so good, his rhyme schemes are like another instrument in the music. Even if you don't want to try and catch lyrics, his flow keeps you captured inside the music.

Juju_804

I think the sax melody in "Ms. Mural" sounds like the ones in "Drive Slow" from Ye.

Laurent Rupp

that's fire

https://riffmagazine.com/album-reviews/lupe-fiasco-drill-music-in-zion/ Love this line from this album review: "There’s a story that Picasso once drew a picture on a napkin for one of his aficionados, and then asked for an absurd amount of money. When confronted that it took him merely five minutes to make, Picasso retorted that it took him decades to be able to complete such a work in five minutes. I thought of this story when listening to Drill Music In Zion, the eighth album by Lupe Fiasco." This is exactly how I felt when listening^

Used to print out Lupe lyrics in school and annotate them, and listen to his albums on repeat on the bus rides in middle school. I remember I analyzed Hurt Me Soul for my 8th grade English project on poetry.. he's been my favorite rapper for so long that last year my friends got me a Lupe Cameo as a birthday gift.. to be a decade and a half in as a fan and to still receive masterpieces - it feels like we're not worthy. Thanks for breaking down this album, y'all are my favorite reactors by far. This is def the album of his that feels most concise yet deep and I think it's a result of him not letting that powerhouse of a mind run too long.. Drogas wave is incredible but it should have been 2 albums, T&Y is still my personal fave but it def wasn't as wavy and easily replayable. But to me he has at least 5 albums that are 9s or 10s. My fave rapper of all time

Gaurav U

Top 3 albums for me. But please listen to some other full lupe albums, imo this is only his 4th best. F&L, the Cool, and T&Y are his best 3 imo

darae so smart

nick.

Dope reaction. Kinda slept on Lupe for awhile but this album brought me back

Naomi is the tennis player that’s married to cordae. (Idk if they’re married but they go together) so he’s playing on the scheme of “swing” “field” “felt”

Adrian Garcia

This album was fucking incredible. I'd never heard a full Lupe album before, but I knew he was an alien. That run of Precious Things, Kiosk, and Ms. Mural was mind-blowing, and the last song was a perfect way to finish the album. I think other than Seattle (which was still not bad), I really liked every song. I loved both Push's and Kendrick's albums, and I might be getting caught up in the moment, but this might be album of the year for me

Lupe has a way of sonically delivering an existential crisis into your psyche. A much needed societal autopsy i'm here for. Brilliant Project. Btw: That 1 line verse had more reflective impact than Drakes entire project 🤧

Vice

Lupe is criminally overrated. When GOAT talk comes up, he really needs to be in the conversation as far as writing ability goes.

Ms. Mural: The saxophone sample Hank Crawford - Wildflower (1973) Used also by: 2Pac - Shorty Wanna Be a Thug Eminem - No One's iller (Slim Shady Ep) Kanye - Drive Slow (Late Registration) J cole - Dreams (The Warm Up) Reason - Drive Slow (There you have it)

Vice

REALLY appreciate yall for this one. Really appreciate lupe for this one.

SamueLouis Schaefer

Thats a really cool perspective i noticed the moment I looked back at it. 🤔

Vice

DRIVE SLOW! thats the melody from ms mural

LGreen Bey

Also crazy things I've picked up or seen from other channels Autoboto - The Carrera Lu alter ego has to do with Jazz, Optimus Prime's former right hand man Transformer (vs the autobots) loved music, and turned into a Porsche, but they eventually made him comic relief/gave him "Black characteristics" to add to the humor while also replacing his power role with Bumblebee Precious Things - The deaf/hear scheme connects with how people who are deaf use their hands to communicate Kiosk - The diamonds you are "killing" to play might be a reference to blood diamonds and the violence used to get diamonds? Ms. Mural - The aggressively I strafe/severing a face seems to connect to the album art work, where the middle looks like it was forcefully painted with strafe motions, and if you sever a face, a skull is left.

Maadhav

This gotta be one of my favorite reaction videos ever, got me through my hangover. Credit where it's due, I've spun this album over 50 times now, and y'all are still catching things I haven't heard before that are making me appreciate the album even more. Ms. Mural and On Faux Nem probably my favorite tracks off this.

Maadhav

The cover looks like a pencil about to write something with the skulls watching too me.

Dead Lov

Yes!!! Oh and the jazz melody very similar to Kanye Drive slow .. but first used by 2 pac on all eyes on me .. also reason used it on his debut album … just had to go through 30 gig music to spark where it came from 😂 love the work guys !! ❤️

James Green

Couldn't wait for y'all to do this. One of the only reactors that could do this album justice. Amazing video

its_RAEN

My mistake for mistaking ‘staying’ with ‘cannot leave’

tgood

Appreciate you guys doing this one, loving this album.

Dvd

Also in ms mural, a possible subtle cereal scheme in verse 2 “my mouth is medically agape, one day its RAISIN up the BRAND, the next is shredding it to FLAKES”. Just so many layers

Chris Malinowski

Thank you for doing this yall. Yall one of the only channels capable of doing a dense lupe reaction justice. Need reactions for “the cool” and “tetsuo & youth” asap even if yall have heard em before

Chris Malinowski

A dollar worth what a dollar buys go monetize

tgood

Shit that was the best video I’ve seen on this channel I think

tgood

This is where ya’ll shine ✨ I’m really enjoying this video. Lupe is crazy

tgood

You're right, dope catch! "Hank Crawford - Wildflower" appears to be the original

VibeVilla

The melody you recognized in MS. MURAL with the sax is kind of the same as Drive Slow from Kanye West or Shorty Wanna Be A Thug from 2pac (both use the same sample).

takin

So glad y’all did this one, it really deserves it

REDJAW

Love it
