Kendrick Lamar - Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers | (EXTENDED) FIRST REACTION/REVIEW

Comments

I'm currently obsessed with GNX and on a Kendrick deep dive and just finished listening to this album for the first time start to finish. Excited to see what you guys thought.

WilliamT

2y later, post-beef. Hope you guys come back on your own times to Auntie Diaries and reflect a bit more on the topic, it's a tough but important one. Much love.

SvP

STOP PLAYIN WITH ME FORE I TURN U TO A SONG 😤😤

Luis Alvernaz

I found y’all during the beef and I’m so so happy that I got to listen to these projects and your perspective on them. Y’all are dope

Katasi Kajubi

Love that I found you guys during the beef. Love your reactions on Hip Hop. Yal truly understand what that means

Cali_Lakergrl

After all the shit that’s gone on the past few weeks. Give this a listen again, it changes the context

TheMarshHare

Just subscribed bro ya so hard with these reactions💯

Clems Dweh

“Windows down, summer time sh*t” “Facts” “Bitch, I’m attractive” 🤣😂 Rolled up 🤣🤣🤣

The Editor

when prince is laughing in We Cry Together then instantly stops when she says "I should've sucked his!" killed me. the disrespect 😂😂

Black Randy

Track 8 is crazy bro😂 we need a full Kendrick album with sh*t like that

Decentralized Finance

VibeVilla, aint no one do a album reaction like you fellas, thanks again man, King Kendrick killed this. Another masterpiece.

iShawnavon

"you ain't felt grief 'til you felt it sober" that shit hit man.

Xenolithic

Man I was waiting for this shit from y'all. My mind hits on a lot of similar stuff like him naming his son Enoch. Like that's some wild power to give your son

Jason Norwood

Mother I Sober was really beautiful. On first listen I wasn't really feeling the first 9 songs, but listening again I liked them a lot more. Baby Keem snapped on his feature, but I really didn't need Kodak on the album. I felt like Silent Hill was the only song that I really wanted to skip

Rudra

Mr. Morale reminded me of Paradise by Big Sean

Rudra

It’s interesting when you both did the DAMN video the day before the new album… and you discussed if you thought LUST or LOVE was the stronger emotion that’s pulling him… I believe you both thought it was lust (same here)… and then off the bat super early in this new album (and all across it) he delves into his “lust addiction” Good catch… ✌🏼

Ghas

Absolutely incredible album. Don't think it can be said enough how big a song like aunties diaries could be for shifting the culture in hip hop. Great video

AJG

Baby keen did produce N95,Savior,savior interlude,

Kakashi

Dope reaction! Kung Fu Kenny with another classic. This shit gonna age like fine wine.

Miles

I hope Auntie Diaries is the beginning of the much needed discussion about the rampant trans- and homophobia in hiphop. Incredibly powerful song.

Loved the vid, wanted to give context for Beth Gibbons' feature on Mother I Sober. Gibbons is the lead singer of British band Portishead, which is one of the 3 big bands that make up the genre Trip-Hop, a hip-hop adjacent that is influenced by English break-beat, house music, Jamaican dub, electronic, ambient, reggae, funk, and maybe most importantly in Portishead’s case, Jazz. Their first (and most successful/well received) album Dummy is one of my favourite albums of all time and would definitely encourage yall to listen to it. The beats are heavily influenced by classic hip-hop, and Gibbons singing is harrowing. Their track Roads is present on Kendrick Lamar’s playlist The Making of ‘good kid m.A.A.d city' and has been credited by Kendrick himself as being a huge influence; Prescription and Raymond 1969 by ScHoolboy Q sample Undenied and Cowboy respectively, both from Portishead's self-titled sophomore album, and Ab-Soul named a song after the band on his 2016 album Do What Thou Wilt., saying in his Dec. 2016 Hot 97 interview that he had “sampled so much of their stuff early on before I even really knew it was them”. Kanye also credited them with being responsible for influencing him to make Late Orchestration (because of their live album Live in Roseland, NYC), and that they were a huge influence on Late Registration. Definitely check out Dummy if you find the time - it's a gorgeous and grimy album that I reckon you'd both love.

🐐 🐐 🙏

This is the day I been waiting on! I first subbed to the Patreon to see yalls Kendrick reacts. I fucking cry every time I listen to Mother I Sober. This album is goated

SAM-WISE GAMGEE

I think a sign of Kendrick progressing as an artist is how his music has gotten simpler and more potent with each release. He gets from A to B in such a more straightforward and effective fashion. This album is great. On first listen that first disc comes off as a theatrical performance (hence the tap dancing sounds) almost like a musical. The elements of a therapy session woven throughout it really put a context to everything he explores on here. A lot of people are gonna hate this at first but give it a couple years and this will be Kendrick’s best work.

Beholdson

The fact we're getting Joey Bada$$'s album in June.

shots

So... is Kendrick the GOAT over Jay-Z with this or not? Don't dodge the question lol

Pape

Only partially in (so hopefully my comment isn’t pointing out things y’all figured out already), but on the next listen, treat this as a therapy session in the first disc and his “breakthrough” (as he said) on the second half. Changes your whole perspective on how he rants and calls everything out in the first half. He’s getting hella shit off his chest first, and then healing in the end.

K

This man really dropped 4 classics in a row. And I do not use that word lightly. Kendrick is my goat 🐐

Alan

Dope ass album, took me a couple of listens to appreciate it. Like others have said, this is probably gonna age really well, maybe even better than Damn. Also, I know this is the last album on TDE, but shit, this kinda feels like a final album, period. With him focusing on himself, shedding his "savoir" role, etc. Either way, Kendirck, one of the best to ever do it.

Steez

I totally agree with what yall saying about how good the album sounds sonically. Kendrick has gotten even better when it comes to production and how he uses them, flows, cadences, voices... It sounds masterful and it's a much easier listen than anything else I heard from him (which was already great)

Pape

(D) Yeah I was saying something similar in a recent convo. Think it's gonna age really well, especially the 2nd half

VibeVilla

No reaches on this one, thats fire

Turnt Honkee

might be a reach but "put me in the Louvre, that's a definite" -> Louvre has the Mona Lisa, Kendrick 'painted the picture' on Mona Lisa with Wayne

jerimiah mings

mr morale sounds like black skinhead

7mod Jeffy

excited for this. appreciate the delivery! 👏🏻 Edit: I enjoyed the body of work, I look at this as almost like DAMN, people are starting to recognize the complexity behind DAMN and its gonna be the same with this. He's about to fuck the game up with this pgLang company / label. Visuals are gonna have layers like the music.

LETS GOOOO WE HERE!
