How did gemma get to Luman in the first place?

Richiep

Personally, I loved the finale. Upon second watch it makes even more sense. Innie Mark chose love and his life while saving Gemma because it’s all he has. If you put yourself in innie Mark’s shoes it makes sense

Sean Fitzpatrick

Mark was his innie. Mark's innie is in love with Helly. What's not to understand?

Michael Weiner

The ending is great and makes total sense

Christopher

No, not a perfect ending, but it is all that the innies have...Totally natural that innie Mark would get Gemma out and choose to stay with Helly. "But where will they go? What can they do? They can't stay forever..." All that is true probably but remember, #1 they are in love 'The early days', plus their innies are 'young'. This is exactly what young people in love would do. It makes no sense in the long run, but they will fight (and hide) for the time they have left together. A beautiful. complicated ending...especially if you have had the chance to experience that kind of 'nothing else matters in the world' love with someone.

Chris07

I’m kinda confused why there’s discourse with this episode? Innie Mark made it very clear in the beginning of the episode he didn’t trust outie Mark or the plan. But he still followed through and got Gemma to safety. The choice of essentially ending your own life is an hard one to make, knowing that you may never wake up, may never see Helly R again. Love trumped duty this time. Why it may be the wrong choice it doesn’t surprise me one bit. Also, Why would you want all the answers in the middle of the tv show? There’s going to be a season 3 and 4. If Mark walks out that door with Gemma you could potentially end the show there. This episode was almost exactly what I wanted. Some answers, left with more questions - has you wanting more, contemplating people’s decisions, what happens now, the story could go any direction. What will Gemma do. How will the board handle this. Will the innies take over the building and be able to freely reside outside since they’d be able to use the control room at their leisure potentially. Not knowing what’s going to happen next is a good thing

I was a little disappointed when I first watched it but the more I thought about it, the more it made sense. The show has always been asking the question “what makes us human?” And in the end, it makes perfect sense that iMark would choose to be with the woman HE loved, rather than ending his life right then and there. Like the two beta fish in Mark’s house, they were always going to be in conflict with each other because they have completely different motivations and experiences. The innies have always been fighting to be recognized as human. But of course the lines are blurred. I love when we see that both oMark and iMark get pissed when someone disrespects their SO (Helena calling Gemma Hannah, and oMark calling Helly Heleny). They might have some similar quirks, but iMark is his own person.

Sarah Stapleton

I really really don't get why people are surprised and hesitant to this ending. I think it was perfect and psychologically realistic. Innie Mark succeeded the mission. Gemma is probably safe. If he leaves with Gemma he knew he will never be in here again. So leaving with Gemma is essentially killing himself which most of us can't do. Instead he wants to fight for what is left of his life with the person he loves alongside. Also with Mr. Drummond dead I don't think anyone can stop their whole new army. I think they will hostage the severed floor and try to find a solution meanwhile is my guess

Ritsu

The real villains are the commenters who said you would get closure 😂 Yep, the show Empire Strike Backed us. Part 2, leave ‘em hanging royally. I think the seed was planted when Mark S. told Helly he didn’t want to live without her. Now he’s just trying to figure out how to save their existence.

Yoshio

There is an inside the episode look after the credits of the finale you might want to go back and watch. They talk about the episode and maybe it would give you guys a little more insight to what Ben Stiller and the writers were thinking about for the season 2 ending. Loved watching your guys reaction to this weird thought provoking show. Hopefully it doesn’t take as long for season 3 to come out to see what happens next.

Cinemaslave

I think as the days go by, you both will unlock a little more meaning to this episode. To me, it was beautifully done: Mark (innie) tried to split the difference and do the best of what's an impossible situation: Save his outie's love who's trapped, and save the woman he (innie) loves. So he saved Gemma as his outie wished, and stayed true to his (innie) love. Not a lot of options but hope springs eternal so they are running way. I don't think that was Helena at the end re: the look, which was a little weird. I just think it's a look you give someone when you know they love someone and they are choosing another.

Gatsby

yep we are very open to this! i think we were expecting more answers and initially felt a but bummed out we didnt get them but at the same time knowing there's another season the finale definitely works!

CpaSpartan Pudgey

Really wanted you to love it like i did, but atleast now ur all caught up with the show like the rest of us:)

Oliver Lindahl Schrøder

You have to understand that there is more to this show than just two seasons. Everything cant be explained by season 2 bcs then the rest wouldnt be interesting. Its like when u watched dark, the show would be terrible if u learned all the secrets by season 2

Oliver Lindahl Schrøder

I've really enjoyed your reactions to this series, thank you! Obviously this series has never spoon fed you anything and the finale is no different; so I'm confident that once you digest it, maybe rewatch it and especially if you watch/read some analyses, it will make a lot more sense to you. That said, there are certainly plenty of questions left to be answered in season 3, and some really interesting paths the story could take. I loved this finale and can't wait for next season! Praise Kier!

Sheri

Spartan and Pudgey, I’ve seen you have bonus reactions for some other shows. Wondering if now that we’ve finished S2, you would watch this video: https://youtu.be/LQg1TMEEPnQ?si=rRXvsaSaF1TujxMd ETA: just rewatched it, maybe it only makes sense if one plays an instrument, but for anyone musically inclined, it’s pretty fascinating. It’s an amazing musical breakdown called “The Severance theme is so perfectly written, it’s insane.” Under 15 mins long, and even if one doesn’t understand all of the music theory, there is enough there to show how this really is the perfect theme song for this show.

What if innie Mark asked what happened to Petey? Could outie Mark have successfully lied and said Petey was ok? Also I kind of get the sense that outie Mark doesn’t really care about his innie, if he can reintegrate, that’s fine, if not, oh well, as long as he has Gemma back, that’s what matters. And I think innie Mark sensed this. When it comes down to it, you can’t bullshit yourself.

Bill B.

I am not sure who said this ending was conclusive. A few of us said it wasn't complete. The goats are used as a sacrifice. They have been sending them out to die with the innies who have been terminated is my best guess. When Mark was talking to Dr. Reghabi (the one helping him with reintegration), he asked her whose ashes were in the box in his basement, when they were discussing Gemma still being alive, and she said they could be anyone's because Lumon owns the whole town. Could have pulled anyone's ashes from the morgue. I think the 25 innies of Gemma were all to test how well their new chip possibly could go through pain and wouldn't feel it nor would it bleed over into her outies consciousness. The ending was wild with Mark deciding not to leave. He did not know Gemma in his innie form. He also said he loved Helly whrn he was talking to his outie on the videos. I am wondering if innie Mark is going to be in charge of some new group of innies with some of the core crew leading a revolution so to speak. I just thought of this after watching this the second time based on that painting where Mark is raising his arms up and all the people are gathered around. He looked angry.

Lyn Hurst

Just 2 or so more years before we get another season LOL.

Bill B.

The thing that bothers me the most about this last episode is that outie Mark never once mentioned Petey in his conversation with innie Mark. Why didn't he bring up the fact that Petey came to him before he died and that he was doing what he had tried to do. It would have given innie Mark more to struggle with.

A L

If this was it, I would have been OK with an open ended sort of ending. At least Gemma is rescued. And it was a hell of an episode with the video camera conversations, EVERYTHING Milchick did, Brienne of Tarth kicking ass, the pretty hilarious way Mark accidentally killed Drummond, the moment that brought tears to my eyes when Mark and Gemma FINALLY found each other, and of course, the GOAT, Dylan, with another “Fuck you, Mr. Milchick!” (I swear I’d buy and walk around wearing a shirt with him saying that if it wasn’t so profane). Anyway, two thumbs up for me and yes I am SO glad there is a season 3. I think that S3 wasn’t announced until maybe a week or two after this finale aired. Which probably made me even more pissed at how it ended. But the more I watch the more this becomes one of my favorite episodes of any show.

Bill B.

I agree.

Lyn Hurst

Excellent take on Helly at the end. Again, so much is there, but hidden, I never thought her speech to the marching band made her change her mind, but it completely makes sense that it would.

Bill B.

interesting theories...is it confirmed that Gemma's body was going to be used for James Eagans mind? it makes sense, just wondering

CpaSpartan Pudgey

About the goats. From what I can tell, assuming the Cold Harbor efficacy test (w the baby crib) went right, they were going to use Gemma’s body as a sort of host for Jame Eagan’s mind. And the goat is the cult sacrifice that goes along with actually killing Gemma’s mind. And even if I’m wrong, the whole goat thing was worth it just to have a Brienne of Tarth versus The Hound round 2 😀

Bill B.

Not pleased with the ending… I wasn’t either, when I first saw it. Actually I was probably cursing at my tv. But the more times I’ve watched season 2, knowing what’s coming, it just makes so much more sense. It’s really the only way this caper could have ended. They’re just living in the moment, it’s all they have. Definitely a series that you pick up so much more with a rewatch.

Bill B.

The ending is amazing television, them running away together is both beautiful and horrific at the same time, so many conflicting emotions. I loved it so much. Helly changed her mind, that's why she went after Mark at the end. That's what her speech was about. "They gave us half a life and thought we wouldn't fight for it". She's fighting for it and so is Mark. It doesn't matter where they're going or what's waiting for them...they're choosing to live whatever time they have left, together, with the person they love. Who on earth would choose to die over that? Mark got Gemma out, he saved her. After everything he's been through, how little autonomy he's had over his own life, how can we ask him to kill himself too? I expect we're being set up for an innie revolution next season. And the fact that Jame sees Kier in Helly makes me think he's going to want to "kill" Helena and have Helly take over on the outside.

Raven Sub

The day has come! I highly disagree with those that think this was a good series ending and that season 3 isn't necessary. There's too many questions needing answered! Thank God season 3 is greenlit!

Nathan Jasper

So I’ve been sitting on this comment for a few weeks now. I think when Helena met Mark at the Chinese restaurant and called Gemma “Hannah”, and then Mark got upset and left… that was a breadcrumb for the video conversation. Innie Mark is at least listening to outie Mark but then becomes defiant and pissed off when outie Mark calls Helly R “Heleny”.

Bill B.

I’m glad we’re here, but sad it’s over 😞 Thanks for the always amazing reactions!!

Brieanne

YES! been waiting for this one for so long!,!!!
