World Refugee Day Benefit Concert

Hey y'all! There is going to be a benefit concert on Friday June 20, 2025 that I wanted to invite you to. You can attend in person if you will be in Minneapolis on that day, or virtually via Livestream if you live elsewhere.

It's a fundraiser concert to help refugees from conflict zones through the amazing work of the Karen Organization of Minnesota (KOM).

The Karen Organization of Minnesota has helped settle folks from Burma, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Southeast Asia, East Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, and more. It was founded by refugees of the Karen ethnic group from Burma, and is the first organization of its kind founded and run by refugees in Minnesota.

I have been working on this thing for over a year at this point! I first heard about KOM through students in the Adult Education classes I teach, several of whom were refugees who arrived in Minnesota via KOM (the song I am One Thousand on the new Taxpayers album was influenced by one of those students) and reached out to them about doing a benefit of some sort.

Anyway, that's what this thing is. I would LOVE any help you could give by spreading the word about this to everyone you know. More info in the video above. -r
