#345: "Hail Oxygen"
Added 2025-05-25 00:44:13 +0000 UTCHow exciting! A truly strange one. Been a while since one of these came out of me. I was starting to worry that I didn’t have these in me anymore.
I can be so controlling with my creations. Before beginning a song I will often think, “you are about this” and then will try to fit the song into that box. And the song will suffer as a result.
But when a song is allowed to breathe and just be, without any preconceptions or thematic requirements, it can be so exciting. It was so freeing to just let this one be anything that it wanted to be.
I have no idea what it is about, beyond wanting every other line to tell a diverging story. The even lines (2, 4, 6, etc) are sort of a William Carlos Williams style of imagery:
Raindrops
On the pond
Dance along
The glass top.
And:
Sunshine
Breathes life
Into voids
Until it dies.
And:
Pipe dreams
Take flight
When you need
A lifeline.
Beyond that, I am bewildered by it, which is a lovely feeling.
What does it seem like it’s about to you?
Help me give this strange beast a form!
Hail Oxygen
I am a bird.
Raindrops
I am a worm.
On the pond
I am a fish.
Dance along
I am oxygen.
The glass top.
I am a stone.
Sunshine
I am the dirt.
Breathes life
I am the wind.
Into voids
I am oxygen.
Until it dies.
I am the day.

I am the night.

I am the dark.

I am oxygen.

2025-05-25 02:12:57 +0000 UTCWell, at a minimum, it seems to point to the interconnectedness of things and the need to consider the various systems in place / at play to see the connection. And it's hopeful. Maybe it comes from the other side of your internal Anxiety Cat "coin"? Song 1 for a Serenity Cat project?
