New video: They Have Power Over Us… But We Have Power Over Them

Hello all you lovely people who support me on patreon. Today I published the shortest video essay (though not shortest video) I’ve ever made. It’s called They Have Power Over Us… But We Have Power Over Them, and although it’s a post-script to my video How We Lost Our Freedom, it will still make sense even if you haven’t seen its counterpart.

Unfortunately, in How We Lost Our Freedom, I made our situation sound a lot more hopeless than it actually is, because I forgot to discuss our latent, untapped power – a revolutionary power which can help us overthrow the system that dominates us.

Oops – I fucked that up. And that’s why I made this video: To say the things I forgot to say and thereby unfuck my mistake... and hopefully also to help infuse you with more hope.

Here’s the link https://youtu.be/mPaZLA4j530

I hope you like it! 😊💖🍀

I won't pretend that it's easy! But it's rare that anything worth doing is. I recommend checking out these learning resources which I hope will be helpful to you. Here's a link to the libcom.org Organising Guides https://libcom.org/article/organise (for workplace organizing, community organizing, and more... IIRC it includes info on starting a group, too) Several resources at this link https://www.reddit.com/r/IWW/comments/h89e4n/a_list_of_learning_resources_on_workplace

I'm curious as to when wanting to organize to promote change of the system, where would you start? I've had thoughts that the first action I would like to make is strengthing communities, promoting spending time with one another for reasons other than consumerism, because from there our collective power then grows. But when thinking about it it just feels like an impossible task! Again, where to start! Community is pretty much abscent where I live, we are mainly individuals who go to work each day, lock ourselves in our homes with the occasional hello or morning as we pass each other. There is no sense of togetherness. I'm currently training in mindfulness and hope to offer free classes and regular meetings in the future to foster a sense of community. Religion used to do a lot of this work, but with that now dissipating where I live (Scotland) there has been nothing to replace that. Hope that makes sense.
