That Daddy Lessons track was Louisiana inspired.... her moms hometown. Blues/Country....

At some point you must find a way to watch the Lemonade film. All of the songs & extras make a lot more sense. Not to mention that the production is simply Stunning.

You definitely clicked to Daddy Lessons being a bit of a centrepiece that ties everything together. Bey and her father were very close growing up, until he cheated (multiple times) on her mother. I wouldn't say they're estranged, per se, but they're not really close anymore. That's why the line "when men like me come around" hits a little different. Very much enjoyed this. :) I know video is a lot harder to manage, so even if it's on your own time, the movie is a very good watch like others said, and has poetry between each song to really tie it all together. Strongly recommend. Would love to see you react to self-titled BEYONCÉ, too!

Albums like Lemonade, SZA's CTRL, and Lana's Born To Die/Ultraviolence are SO important and SO formative for many people in general but maybe especially women/femmes in my generation. I appreciate you taking the time to really listen and understand them!

Formation was more like a bonus track. It was released before the album, produced by Mike Will Made it, and topped all charts. It was so popular that it got to be used on the album as a bonus track. The track was more of a way for Beyonce to let everyone know she still owns the scene. And it was perfect for that reason. Great delivery, production was stellar and her bragging attitude was refreshing at the time. Mike Will produced so many gems some people don't even know it's him because outside of an original distorted bass-line which nobody delivers like him, you don't hear much routine stuff from him. He likes to experiment a lot with different genres.

great reaction! highly recommend watching homecoming, the film about her coachella performance, if you are interested in seeing one of the best (if not THE best imo) living performers of all time in action. and echo everyone else’s comments about the lemonade film as well!

When she says her Dad saying "Men like me come around", I believe she's referring to her father, Matthew Knowles unfaithful history with her mom Tina. He's cheated several times on her mom. They're divorced now.

Great reaction - you have to react to 4:44 by Jay-Z for his response to this. Another phenomenal album!

One of my favourite albums ever! She actually premiered this as a suprise visual album on HBO which had little snippets of poetry between each song along with incredible visuals to further tell the story of her journey to forgiveness & how when life gives you lemons to make lemonade. The story does end with all night and Formation is just a great empowering lead single:)

for some context, Formation is a sort of bonus track to the album. she performed it in 2016 at the super bowl as a single but it was never released on streaming platforms or itunes

Definitely have a look at the Lemonade film!! It dives deeper into each song, pairing them all with visuals interweaved with monologues.

Great reaction, Jon! Agree with the other comments—take the time to watch the visual album as well—it dives into the themes deeper, it really is beautiful. And yes definitely check out the live performance of Freedom at the BET awards. Bey and Kendrick took it to another level. Would love reactions to both, but if not, check them out anyway!

I definitely recommend you watch the Lemonade film. She basically pairs each song to a stage of grief and the little monologues in between are lovely.

Watch the movie. The visuals provide even more context. And then listen to her sister Solange’s “A Seat at the Table” album. In a lot of ways, they’re companion pieces.
