Boxcar Sequence Post-Mortem

Here is a RAW, UNEDITED (mostly I think...) meeting we had the week after finishing the box car shooting sequence. Hey, it may be a little boring. Not gonna lie, all meetings sort of are. Also, this one spends more minutes than it should (anything over one minute was more than it should) on "matt lunch hours."

But this is the sort of essential check-in you need after any major aspect of production to start figuring out how it went on first look, and what we could do better. Especially in this case, we did the Boxcar Sequence early to get some answers to some of the bigger, more complicated questions for the shoot.

We have had more of these meetings since, and will have more going forward. Meetings upon meetings. Just one of the many ways any film gets made.

We will for sure film the next major meeting where we will start breaking down the actual shooting schedule and budget of the film.

Right now we are searching for ADs (assistant directors) and other production team members, and Ashim is patiently waiting for Will and I to finish the last draft so he can put together a more accurate budget. But he is already beginning the process of breaking down the film into larger shooting blocks.

One reason some of this is on hold is because (as you may have seen if you follow a certain actor on Instagram) Freddie and I are directing a spec pilot for our good friend and collaborator Ashly Burch at our stage space. So that films at the end of February. Then it's back to full-time Nail House!

Yo this was so awesome—it’s like seeing the REAL behind the scenes that the “behind the scenes” never shows you. Making movies always seems like only fun and games from the usual behind the scenes stuff. But these meetings show some of the difficult work I’d never expect—like negotiating 10 vs 11 hour days, or trying to make sure the camera team doesn’t get screwed, or finding parking for the crew.
