DBS Ep 97
Added 2023-05-01 16:56:15 +0000 UTCAHHH it's finally here. Sorry for the wait, I've been saying I would watch this for the longest time!
I will preface this by saying:
I DID NOT WATCH the Tournament of Power in Super (which is what I will be showing)
I DID WATCH the rest of Super prior to the Tournament of Power. It was a long time ago so I may forget some detail here and there.
Sorry for the caps, I have had a lot of confusion surrounding my reactions to Super, and I haven't even posted them yet. I have watched Super EXCEPT the Tournament of Power which is what I will be reacting to. I hope that clarifies everything:)
As of right now, I have not finished watching it but I am really enjoying it so far. Didn't think I would as much, but it's been really fun. Ok, hope y'all enjoy:)

Honestly when I saw that episode it really made me happy he’s no longer tracksuit Gohan anymore lol

2023-05-04 00:01:29 +0000 UTCI see your points, but I would have to strongly disagree on point 2. In some respects, at least. I think having characters lives on the line, for me, is exactly what Super needed. Unlike the Dragon Ball era tournaments, we didn't have the power trope that exists now, and death wasn't nearly as meaningless as it is by Super. The entirety of Super suffered, IMO, one major problem: it lacked any degree of seriousness or any depth or level of stakes. Even when it "tried." When the ToP finally came around, and the stakes were your entire universe would be erased, for the first time in all of Super, I finally felt like there were some actual serious stakes at hand, which had me even further invested. Further, not being able to fight to your fullest potential is just not as fun either. Allowing characters to fight all out and without concern, and the enormous stakes of having your universe erased is quite the motivating factor to fight to the end with all you have, which in theory should be far more entertaining than fighting strictly for fun. Additionally, it added more uncertainty about what could have happened. I think if this tournament was like every other tournament DB had thus far, it would just be seen as another same old tournament. I think they needed to change up the tournament style, I'll be honest I love the tournaments, but it began to feel like whenever they didn't know where to go, they just fell back on tournaments and at some point, it gets a little old going over the same tournament style over and over again. So having this new take with raised stakes, for me, was a breath of fresh air. As far as the first point, to me, that's just Goku. He doesn't take anything seriously, even when he is taking something seriously, you very rarely see it on his face or attitude for more than a moment. Do you recall how he looked when he fought Frieza? How he was when he fought Cell? And then Majin Buu? Virtually every single villain ever, he doesn't even take them seriously, and does incredibly stupid things which put everyone at risk for the sake of him having a good fight. He has always been that way, and has always not taken people seriously even when the threat was everyone he knew would be killed. So to me that's not too far out of character for him.

2023-05-03 01:41:54 +0000 UTCI have two big problems with this arc. 1 is Goku's attitude. He's acting like its just another tournament fought for fun, bragging rights, and a cool prize. Doesn't fit with the stakes being that the losing teams have their entire universe destroyed. 2 is that it should be a fun tournament without stakes beyond bragging rights and a cool prize. Cool battles where the characters could have fun and show off their skills without there being lives on the line. ToP totally misses what makes DB tournaments fun. A lesser gripe is the battle royal format. I think the singles matches make for better fights.

2023-05-02 23:47:14 +0000 UTCI like Dragon Ball Super. I don't hate it. I just think for what it had to live up to, and the budget it had, it just felt like the ball was dropped in a lot of areas. I can list off the same complaints we all know, but I think by the Tournament of Power, DBS really starts to finally take a true turn for the better in most all respects that it lacked before (Goku Black did a great job though, i will give that arc an exception, but the end was to me ruined by Zeno erasing the universe). So I think this part if any is probably worth the watch. :)
