It wasnt' a bad arc, but overall compared to everything else it's just one of the weakest arcs in the show in my opinion. It's just Pilaf never really felt like a threat and was a little too goofy. Moving on the show slowly gets more serious, a lot of people like the following arcs and they are memorable and great no doubt, but I think some of the best work is really the final few arcs, and it begins to feel more like Z.
