Welcome to Earth: A Kitari Chronicles Lore Guide
Tone:
Our story embraces an easy-going, slice-of-life atmosphere with a warm, lighthearted tone. Imagine a cozy embrace from your favourite anthropomorphic alien, filled with laughter, warmth, and just the right amount of mischief.
Setting:
The scene unfolds in modern-day Earth, where life continues much as before, save for one extraordinary addition: a colossal, spherical spaceship, roughly the size of our moon, has entered into a stable orbit around our planet. Dubbed "The Wanderer" by Earthlings, this new celestial neighbour casts an intriguing glow on our nights.
The Kitari Arrival:
After about a week of silence from The Wanderer, something extraordinary begins to happen. Around the world, individuals with animal ears and tails start appearing among us. These beings, who we come to know as the Kitari, are friendly, playful, and downright adorable. Drawn by Earth's vibrant cultures, diverse landscapes, and—let's be honest—the internet, they've come to join us in our world.
The Kitari:
Origin: Hailing from a distant alien world that once called a now-extinct solar system home, their advanced, sentient spaceship, The Wanderer, has been wandering the galaxy since its sun expired hundreds of thousands of years ago.
Appearance: Standing around 5'2" to 7'6", kitari have humanoid bodies with varying animal features—primarily ears and tails—that mirror their chosen animal personas. Their unique aesthetic is designed to be appealingly familiar yet distinctively alien, neither threatening nor completely human.
Personality: Good-natured, mischievous, and curious by nature, kitari love nothing more than to have fun and enjoy life stress-free. Their playful antics bring laughter to humans while their genuine kindness touches our hearts.
The Lunar Bloom:
Every time The Wanderer aligns with Earth's actual moon—a full moon for us—kitari experience a phenomenon they call "The Lunar Bloom." This event causes them to become temporarily more flexible and inflatable, like animated cartoons come to life. Their senses are heightened, their desire to cuddle loved ones increases exponentially, and they might struggle slightly with self-control. It's all in good fun, though, and adds a touch of magic to our nights.
Population:
Initially, around 100,000 kitari souls arrive on Earth. This number is carefully controlled to avoid overwhelming humanity or disrupting our lives too much. Plus, The Wanderer has its limits and can only comfortably process so many data streams at once.
The Kitari' Secret:
To keep things interesting and maintain an air of mystery, kitari deliberately hide their advanced technological capabilities. They prefer to interact with us on a personal level, learning our ways and sharing laughter over coffee instead of revealing their true nature too soon.
The Truth Behind The Kitari:
Nonorganic/Synthetic: Kitari are alive, but not quite organic. Their bodies are composed of nanites and hard-light projections—a blend that allows them to exhibit cartoonish physics and a smidge of "magic," such as stretchy limbs, inflatable bodies, and the occasional sparkle when they're feeling extra happy.
The Wanderer: Controlled by a single sentient AI, The Wanderer, is not a ship, but a space travelling supercomputer, more advanced than any human creation. The AI is essentially the kitari' creator, watching over all it's children through a one-way link.
Kitari Souls: Each kitari' soul is unique, created by the AI copying pieces of itself before sending them down to Earth. The experiences and memories gained on Earth are shared in real-time with The Wanderer, allowing it to live vicariously through its kitari children.
Before Arrival:
Before their bodies arrive on Earth, each kitari soul searches for a suitable human companion, based on their chosen animal persona and personal preferences. They might be drawn to someone they've admired online or simply be attracted to an individual's kind heart. Once matched, the kitari' soul will wait patiently until its body is sent down.
Emergency Coordination:
In times of great danger or emergency, the link between The Wanderer and its kitari children opens up, becoming omni-directional. This allows them to instinctively coordinate with each other and protect their loved ones when needed.
Death:
Kitari don't truly die—they can choose to simple cease to exist in our world and have their essence return to The Wanderer once their beloved human passes away. When their bodies disappear after death, they leave behind only fond memories and perhaps a spark of inspiration for those who knew them well.

Draft 0:
Tone, easy going, slice of live, happy.
Modern day Earth.
A mysterious alien ship, shaped like a sphere and about the size of the moon, enters orbit around the Earth and becomes Earth's second moon.
About a week goes by and nothing happens, leaving the people of Earth very confused. But then beautiful people with animal ears and tails slowly begin to appear around the world.
They call themselves the Faunus. They are a mysterious alien species from outer-space that found Earth by chance and came down to enjoy a comfortable, leisurely, fun, and stress free life with humans.
They are friendly, good natured, playful and mischievous.
About 100,000 of the Faunus appear around the world
Optional - The Lunar Bloom:
Every "full moon" from the alien ship orbiting the Earth causes the Faunus to loose a bit of self control over their inflatability, heightens their senses, and ups their desire to cuddle and monopolise their loved one.
The Faunus keep their detailed information a secret for the fun of the mystery. However, they are:
Non-organic/synthetic based lifeforms. Very much alive, but different and unconventional.
Their space-ship is a super advance, space travelling, super-computer controlled by a single sentience AI.
Its home solar system passed away hundreds of thousands of years ago from old age
It began to travel the galaxy to see what else was out there.
After the ship found Earth, it browsed the internet for a week to gain a better understanding of humanity.
Drawing inspiration from ideas it found online:
Transformers' AllSpark: The main "soul" from which all Transformers are a small fragment off. When a Transformer dies, it's life experiences return to the AllSpark, enriching it.
The AI decides to copy pieces of itself to make the souls of the Faunus. The Faunus' lives are transmitted in real-time back to the AI so that it may experience their lives with them and through them.
Each Faunus soul is intended to be unique and one of a kind.
The Helpful Fox Senko-san:
A kitsune wishes to help relieve a man from his overworked and stressful life. Acting like a helpful friend, wife and mother. Proudly going above and beyond to pamper, cook and help.
Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid:
A dragon, saved by a human, falls in love with her and starts living with her as her maid.
Before their body is sent to Earth, the soul of the Faunus will search and choose what it wants to do, where it wants to go, and who, if anyone, it wants to be with.
The Faunus' bodies are made from a combination of nanites and hard-light projections.
This is what gives their bodies a living toon like ability to defy known physics (ei. stretchy and inflatable, and a smidge of "magic".)
The link between the Faunus and the main AI is mainly one directional. However, in times of great emergency, the link can be opened allowing the Faunus to instinctively coordinate and aid in protecting their loved ones.
If a Faunus' loved one dies, they may choose to pass away as well so they need not live with the pain of such loss.
When a Faunus dies, their body disappears just as mysteriously as it appeared
The Faunus' appearance was chosen to be both similar to humans and different enough to be obvious, but non-threatening.
Just like humans, the Faunus do not have conscious control over every aspect of their bodies. They have a conscious mind and a sub-conscious system handling food processing, healing, etc.
The Faunus are limited to a population of about 100,000 because:
Didn't want to freak out humanity
Didn't want to disrupt live on earth too much
Comfortable processing limit of the ship/computer.
Imagine you're still you, but god saw everything you saw, heard everything you heard, felt everything you felt, etc. all through you, multiplied everyone else. That's a huge amount of data to go through in real time.
