New pets you can hang out with live
Added 2019-01-03 23:39:13 +0000 UTCHi there, kind patrons and internet friends! I hope the holidays have been treating you and your family well. I've been kind of a depressed hermit lately but there have been some nice times with friends this past couple weeks, and that's been really nice.
I have so much video in the pipeline; most of all a series of FPGA project videos. The sads have got that pipeline more clogged than usual, but I'm working on that. In the mean time, some other things have been joyful distractions... a side project, and a new pet!
The side project is pictured above; that's a cute squishy 3D printed figurine from Porpentine Charity Heartscape's computer game, Almanac of Girlswampwar Territory. She made it last year for a museum show in San Francisco, and now you can play it online. I think it's cool, and I made a process for generating 3D printable figurines from the game. This started out as a Christmas gift but now it's more like an art collaboration, I guess! We're going to make more of them for her fans and patrons to hold and squish!

So, the bugpony is cute but that's not the new pet. I got isopods! Otherwise known as pill bugs, or roly-polies, or a few other local names. I've been interested in these critters since I was little, and I've been wanting to try keeping invertebrates as pets, so yeah! And of course I wanted to try streaming them online. This camera is very beta quality but I think it's already a lot of fun to watch them and maybe you will too,

And speaking of diode.zone that server is still going well! I haven't found the time and focus to contribute to PeerTube beyond filing and discussing bugs, but I hope to do some of that in 2019 and bring live streaming to diode zone properly.
