Originally when Maya exits the underground stages I planned to transition into making the marble gardens/mausoleum area, but while working on them I realized that it's now "night" in-game.
I guess that from the time that Maya enters the mines at the hill stage, then navigate through the underground areas until she reaches the werewolf boss, the evening has come and there's a full moon so it would be weird that as soon as she exits it's daytime again.
Now to be clear, this game won't have an actual dynamic day/night cycle since it was never in the original plans anyways, but as the backgrounds for the stages do depict certain times of day, then I have to try and at least make the illusory "flow of time" from one stage to the next feel more natural and concise with adjacent stages.
So what I'm saying is that this evening time (due to how the werewolf boss needed a full moon) gave me an idea to create the next area based on a night creepy mood as well, thus the swamp, which I then molded to have some burial grounds that will lead into the more appropriate parts of the stage.
For inspiration I tried to give it some ghost n' goblins vibes but failed miserably as usual haha, so to give it some more life I also dabbled into making a couple of animated backgrounds for the stage which has some waterfalls and a lake that feeds the swamp and will match the backgrounds for the mausoleum/gardens area as well, so in the end it came out decently at least.
The next update is coming near the end of the month as usual.
