Not sure where to go from here ...when I originally left my homeland of Israel - moving to London in 2008 - I swore to myself I would stay away from politics; "I'm a photographer - I am only going to take photos!"
I have violated this promise many times since.
...and even in those beautiful photos we took on a beach in Mexico, so far and removed from the current reality - my friend Dijana Andročec who is portrayed - also happens to be a Croatian who grew up with horrors of the Yugoslav Wars. Spending years in the basement hiding with her mum as a little girl, while the Serbians were slaughtering her people.
So many of us carry the traumas of conflict and war.
Sadly it's not exclusive.
Will we ever move on and heal as a civilisation? I fucking hope so. I'd like to believe we can ❤️🩹
When things get tough, I try to go back to my safe place; ART.
When there's so much darkness in the world, I try to remember that "there’s a crack in everything - that’s how the light gets in" (Leonard Cohen).
I will try to focus on the light. Walk towards empathy instead of hate.
Forgiveness and love instead of fear.
Zoom out, and examine the bigger picture.
Ask questions "Why? why? why?"
"How did we get here?"
I'm starting to wake up. I'm starting to understand.
