2025-11-04 23:42:13 +0000 UTCThank oyu for your comment! =) Yes, I think I would have watched Monster really differently had i done so alone. But I never was a fan of mystey boxes that lead nowhere in particular storwise. Mosnter did have great emotional payoffs, so in the end I did not care, but I was rally a bit sad that the emotional story was for some eps pushed away for these big mystery things. Therer were some minor weaknesses from the story not being an anthalogy with some Tenma/Johan frame (i.e. Tenma not being in every story), which would have been a bit more my taste, but all in all I liked that the mcs all had really real personalities. I think the German background gave me too much of a "realism" illusion, as it was actually harder to suspend my disbelief in some situations. I guess the worldbuilding was just that vivid. :D On the nihilism, I think that is in story mostly easy coutnteresd by thoughts along logotherapy, and it worked well here as all characters had a purpose in their lifes, so it was never a real issue. I think that is also why Johan actually failed often with "normal" people. I love that this is basicall ya really uplifitng message (as is the whole message). =) I am glad oyu enjoyed this jourens, I think my frieren and Evangelion reactions are most similar, so if you have not seen those, consider checking them out! =) All the best, JLY2 =)

2025-11-04 23:31:13 +0000 UTCYou finally finished it! 🎉 Just a little rant I wanted to give, forgive me, this might be long... Naoki Urasawa's Monster, Manga, was serialized in 1994, though I understand your complaints based on your profession, you must also understand that for anime and manga at the time, though there were a lot of thought provoking anime out there like your Serial Experiments Lain or even your Earth Maiden Arjuna, however not alot of properties arguably tackled these themes Monster did, and if so, not the way Monster did it, something that Naoki Urasawa continued to do with a lot of his works (minus his comedies like Yawara, which is a good one), though I will be one to admit that as a writer, Urasawa does have some weaknesses as much as he does strengths, but since the Manga and Anime are almost completely one to one in adaption, the core message is the still the same. All this to say, I do see some of your complaints, but I do feel like a lot of issues you had with Monster was more so you trying to expect the story to do what you wanted, rather then just being patient, and engrossing yourself in the story. We will always see flaws and inconsistencies in stories, there are none that are flawless, but it's our expectations that shape and change our criticisms. I could definitely say thoughtout the journey of watching it with you, there were certain details that were given, but you didn't see it initially because of your concerns that the story wasn't doing what you wanted. Though needless to say, some I definitely understand. I think your opinion of Monster would have been different if not recorded for content but rather just your personal viewing. I definitely love your critiques though throughout, i will miss that. I did want to add, correct me if I'm wrong, but you thought the theme of Monster was nature vs nurture, but it was actually Nihilism. There are lots of videos out there that really break down Monster and it's themes, but if you ever get the chance, though this one is short and from 7 years ago, I really like this one. https://youtu.be/BVOaY5UL0J0?si=rTfkw4hM3IQHJFeO Overall though, I'm going to miss this journey watching Monster through your perspective. I know of other anime pretty good at picking the brain like this one that are older, I hope you tackle some or they get recommended at some point. But thank you for the journey, It was a blast! And as for your novel, God bless you on all your endeavors, and I hope your story gets a lot of traction, I can tell from the way you articulate yourself, that literary knowledge and your ability to analyze the human psyche probably found its way in your story, and if so, I say it's no doubt your story has a soul, and I feel like in the literary world, that's something missing now a days, i know it will be successful. Good luck 🤞 And remember, Jesus Loves you 😊✝️
