I really love your interpretation, I always thought like Evangelion was converting into a modern myths, myths usually are a compilation of histories that can or not can have sense. The value of the myths is not the epic and powerful characters but the rites of passage that they describe, the meta and archetypical process that they describe, in the end everything relates to daily life, every fight, every trouble, every miracle... so eva is a manual to awake from the fantasy world as the allegory of the cavern but for modern times.

That's why Toji was angry at Shinji. In addition, the time jump is 14 years, so she is at least 17 or even 18 since we see her briefly in Evangelion:2.22 and she is about 3 to 4 or even 6 years old in Evangelion:2.22.

I have actually gotten alot of enjoyment piecing together all the expanded lore crumbs that were dropped but I would not have been satisfied with not having all the answers before the last 30 mins of the movie truly sank in for me. thanks for putting this up for free!

2025-08-27 11:38:58 +0000 UTCYou are right that most of the plot devices were convinently made up just before being used in this movie, but Key of Nabuchedanezzar was actually mentioned and showed in Rebuild 2.0, in a scene that suggested it is analogic to Adam's embryo from original series.

2025-08-27 00:00:30 +0000 UTCwow! what a ride. thank you so much for the uncut reaction to this finale! i totally agree with you that the rebuilds get just as meta as the original show, if anything, i feel like the rebuilds have a less coherent in-universe plot xD either way im so so glad you enjoyed this series that means so much to me! the original show helped me through some tough times, and to me 3+1 is the perfect farewell to this story. your interpretation makes a lot of sense, i mean, shinji and mari LITERALLY walk into real life at the end lol. idk how you could make it much clearer if you wanted to. evangelion was the reason i subbed to your patreon and im 1000% glad i did. thank you for this amazing reaction to this amazing series, im looking forward to see what comes next <3

Evangelion is just Hideakii Anno's self. It's his life, starting in some of his darkest times to now rebuild where he meets his wife, who saved him. Either way thank you for the ride.
