Indeed, one of the biggest criticisms often leveled against science and papers is the lack of communication skills used. So while some indeed can do explain really well intuitively, some really suck at it :D I am not sure about Cox, I have not watched many of the American "explainers". :D

2025-07-21 08:32:08 +0000 UTCI don't want to toot my own horn but going on the topic of explaining complex ideas to children - I feel like I'm intuitively good at it Most of the time it isn't children - I train a lot of people at work, but gauging reactions and understanding the pitfall they've created for themselves to not understanding the concept makes it easier to reaproach an explanation. You could say it's being empathetic but it's purely logic from my point of view, it's like 90% looking at reactions at a specific point in your explanation. The biggest example from memory is watching one of those joe rogan podcasts with Brian Cox - while I'm insanely ignorant on theoretical physics, I really wanted to yell through the screen and just re-explain some of the ideas Brian is trying to convey but not being grasped - literally zero knowledge on the topics outside of whatever youtube can give me but I know for sure I could have made it 100% understandable. But I feel like this sort of branches away from summarising complex ideas so children could understand, and more goes into being a competent communicator in a general sense
