well it kinda is the best translation its just that "hear you later" is itself kinda outdated because phonecalls are not that special anymore and we got used to communicating in a huge variety of ways

For me it really changes the context of the early character of Asuka we're introduced to, who on a very surface level isn't portrayed in a, likeable way lets say. Re watch hits totally different when its clear that her overly confident and sometimes obnoxious personality is just a mask to avoid dealing with or even thinking about her past trauma. Obviously you caught the repressed trauma very early, and I think it hits hard one way or another. To avoid any spoilers I'll leave it at that for now, but there are more ideas I'd like to share when you're all finished. Two last quick points; first, the spear of Longinus is a reference to the spear of the Roman soldier who stabbed Christ while on the cross. Second, NGE ep 22 and ep 16 are interesting to compare.
