2025-02-04 17:47:39 +0000 UTCI can spoil this a bit since the anime doesn't really address who the 'real' villains of the series is, I'm not sure the VN does either. Basically SERN is under the control of the 'Committee of 300', which is essentially their world's version of the Illuminati. Their goal is pretty simple, world conquest/total subjugation of the human race. One of the ways they did it (In conjunction with time travel) was referenced by what Suzuha said a few episodes ago, where she asked if Okabe had a microchip under his eyelid. On the subject of Steins Gate Zero, watching it is somewhat necessary to clear up certain plot holes but Steins Gate Zero delves more into the Technological side of things compared to Time Travel, we'll let Storieswithstyle/a poll decide if its worth watching or not, IMO its slightly worse than Steins Gate but at the same time Steins Gate is their best written work.

There was a risk of dying, so I think that's why they don't want to make more than 48. They already know 48 hours work now, if they try more and fail then it's all over
