Next Poll - "Primitive Edition"
Added 2026-02-01 16:02:35 +0000 UTCThis time we are doing a "primitive-only" edition. That means we only have new devices on the table, and all of them will be very simple wooden structures which can be made quick.
Reasons for this:
First one being that the complex solitude Scene has left me really drained and showed me once again that doing those is not my core competence. Sure, I can do them, by it exposes me to the problem of having to use the creation kit a lot, which is unreliable at the best of times...
When it comes to making Devices, I can do the vast Majority of the work within Visual Studio and Blender, both of which being modern and reliable tools, which just makes the process a lot more enjoyable and is less prone to cause a loss of motivation halfway through making a new Release, which is kinda what happened in Solitude this time....
Of course, I do realize making actual Gameplay content to incorporate Devices is very important, and I will absolutely keep doing those (OBH is still in the Backlog), but I simply cant do them back to back and need new Devices in between to mix things up and keep me motivated and productive.
And on the "Primitive" part, I think having "simple" devices makes it far easier to immersively integrate them into scenes. The Dwemer Devices always tend to stand out a bit, which makes this more tricky
With that out of the Way, lets go through our options.
1: Interactive Archery target
(see discord for some self-drawn high art)
A set of wooden beams aranged in a triangle form, to fix a target in place. Lover ends directly tied to the pole, upper end suspended on a rope
(Propably in a similar configuration as the Hanger, where we can switch between lethal/nonlethal)
Can either be used as actual Archery target , I will add anims for that which play on hit.
Or the regular 2-Actor animation when the Archer goes for a more hands-on approach.
2: The Fork
This was an option before, but it fits in with todays theme.
A tall, wooden, 2 pronged fork, where A convicts neck is put in that space between the prongs so he cant get his head out.
Also lends itself to multi-Actor Animations
3: Hanging Pole
As the name suggests, this is a vertical Pole, But I plan on making a variation which uses a tree as a model.
Intended as an even simpler and more-space conserving version of the regular gallow, this would after long last also provide a new set of anims other then the ones from Zap Ive been using for the last 5 years.
Also options for multi-Actor Scene of course.
So, those are the option. I do expect all of them to be fairly done fairly quick. They dont require any complex animations after all, and script wise, I can propably recycle a lot from existing devices which is known to work. Target is to get the winner done within this month.
Leave your choices below. And remember that you can vote for multiple options.
