All in all the Extended versions of the episodes adds around 3 1/2 mins or so to a season of Friends according to the producer of the show when asked why the extended episodes have not been included, the priority was made for the OG aired episodes. These are longer than some syndicated eps which were badly cut for ads. The extended eps have not been seen on a Friends boxset after 2012 (- present) on Bluray or 4K 😭

You are totally correct Nick. The runtime for Friends was precise to allow for adverts & syndication. The extended versions were deliberately included for home video however due to the fact Friends was shot on film only the broadcasted versions have been upscaled to Bluray & even last years 40th Anniversary 4K set. These extended versions are unlikely to EVER be included again due to the time and effort needed to include them or so say WB 😭 It's why I cherish my DVD set & don't own Friends on Bluray or 4K sadly

Simple. If they are the extended episodes then they are only found on the DVD set . They have never been remastered for any home media set to this very day other than DVD. If you buy Friends on Bluray or the new 4K anniversary set you will NOT find these extended versions at all!! It is why I won't part with my 25th anniversary DVD set for a Bluray set

It's 1994 T.V. At least you can actually set the res on this player.

I've actually only seen a few of the extended episodes, my sister had the DVDs with them, so this is a trip! Your face when Janice was mentioned and then showed up is priceless! Also, one of the things I love about the show is how they often flip the genders, like with Chandler's situation with Aurora. It's often been portrayed on TV that guys are seeing multiple different women but never the other way around. Although in reality, I doubt these things often work, regardless of gender. But I do think it's funny and sad at the same time how the writers were trying so hard to convince us that Matthew wasn't good looking and couldn't get a woman like that.
Fun facts: Maggie Wheeler (Janice) accidentally let out that iconic laugh, mainly due to Matthew Perry and his comedic skills, which was added to the character. Also, there were rumors that Maggie auditioned for Monica but she has denied this.
The laughs after Ross says "Yes there is a laundry room in my building" (that delivery is so good!) is also due to David and Jennifer laughing after a studio light blew during a take.
E6 is actually the first episode that features 'The Rachel' haircut, and, ironically, Jennifer Aniston hated it. Also, the movie director is James Burrows who directed several episodes (not this one though).
Goof: In E6, in spite of watching this episode about a 1000 times, I only just recently noticed there is something on Rachel's back under her shirt in that scene, specifically when they kiss. I assume it's attached to the mic or something.

Why is the resolution of the show so bad?

I'm wondering if you noticed the extended lines and scenes! They're really obvious when you've seen both versions multiple times, but I assume less so if you've only watched through once. I can think of at least one ep where someone's whole storyline is cut, but it's mostly little quips and extended jokes, etc. They cut a lot of good lines, though, excited for you to see them!

You should check out
How I met your mother for sure
Two and a half men is halarious, maybe the next one.
Married... With Children is a little older and also very good. One of Rachels sisters plays a leading role here, plays it very well and is pretty young here, and that is one of the reasons why you hear cheering when she came on Friends S9 E8.
And if you find the time to understand the references in The Big Bang Theory refering to Star Trek, you should really check that out as well. :)

I think Brad Pitt had a Double for his legs. I think he didn´t want to show it on Troy because their wasn´t muscular enough. if

Oh that's what Phoebe was doing at 38:57. I thought she was puling something. That's why I never got it. Although, her squeal is more animalistic than that staccato violin sound, in MY mind.

During live audience taping, they have more jokes prepared, many times even coming up with more during it and seeing how the audience reacts. Then they edit it down to fit the allotted time slot.

I’ve never seen the extended version of episodes so this is really fun. Love how much fun you guys had with these two episodes. Also loved the look on Nick’s face when Janice appeared on screen. Grinning from ear to ear 😁

I’m so glad you are starting this show together! I love the perspective you both bring as a first time viewer and as a rewatcher. I’ve watched Friends several times but have never seen the extended scenes versions, so this will be fun.

I'd guess it's a little of both: cutting for runtime and also cutting for "appropriateness".

I loooved that you're watching the ones with the deleted scenes... I watched more on DVD than on streaming, and it felt weird without the extra scenes hahahah

I won't bug you with every extended line every time, but ep 6 had a lot. Joey's dance in the play wasn't in the original airing, It WAS in Joey's flashback episode late in the series though. But then, We meet Estelle! That scene was cut! We didn't meet her until season 2 originally. Then them dancing at the end was also unique to this version.

Mostly the extended versions are before they cut it down to time to air on TV.
Nick, when Ross said "Breaking up with Janice" I loved your look of "I can't say anything..." XD
