🍓painting background, thoughts & process work🍓
3 silly paintings! basically strawberry themed around things we like to do! not too deep...
At the Liberry and On a Walk are more straightforward- Eating out has a funnier starting point.. I'll expand below
here are the sketches i started with
Eating Out was the first idea- the other two came after.. mostly just to make it a tryptic set. I know this just looks like strawberry paintings but it started off kinda goofy...! and I hope this is a fun journey for you
I was thinking about fun yonic and phallic art a lot at the time, after seeing some really delightful paintings by Camila Engstrom (a swedish painter) (but specifically this image of her works https://coveteur.com/media-library/female-artists.jpg?id=25311835&width=1600&quality=90 from the article she was featured in)
and this post from this artist who I can't find anywhere else https://x.com/Carey_leslie00/status/1400470615199346691
I loved how both of their pieces were at one time so blatantly sexual but also so.... non explicit? the cute phallic little mountain, the flowers ovulating- just so fun and visually appealing in colors and shapes
in general I'm soo delighted when I see artists that put sexual and coochie imagery in their art in a playful way- from Georgia O'Keefe to Megumi Igarashi (manko chan) and there's been a part of me trying to think of ways to do similar things within my painting series (mostly because i think it's fun) and this was an experiment to try it- I don't think I quite nailed it on the head with this one but still was delightful to paint the shapes..!
I'll leave you with this funny art history moment
thanks for watching, reading and supporting!

all my love
