Dinner at home 🍽️🍲sharing creative process

👑Part of the 'With You' series🎨

Piece Title: Dinner at home
Size:  18" x 24"
Materials: oil and acrylic on canvas sheet

completed in February 2024

Other process work:

this piece started as a quick little drawing I did for fun on paper- using watercolors and pencil crayons and even some pastel. I was just playing around while chatting with my husband in the studio. that was in 9/4/2023 as you can see on the photo of the original small sketch! then in the new year of 2024, I wanted to practice painting larger so I decided to take this existing image and scale it up and recreate it in oils!

it's fun to look at both of the pieces now!

💌 This month's sticker reward looks like this:

This month’s sticker is a little 5x7" sticker sheet of the painting!
I thought I’d try something new. You can remove the little foods and the characters!
So really with this one reward, you're getting 9 stickers. Maybe you can use it for decorating your journal or other crafts! I'd love to know what you end up using them for. I had fun making them. You also get the corresponding postcard print for the month.

*If you'd like to get this reward shipped to you, be sure to join the tier before the end of the month! That's when I do my mail outs.

Limited leftovers will be added to the Stationary section of the shop later as always.

Transcript (VO):

Hi friend's welcome back to another painting video! Grab a cup of tea and enjoy the process. Hope you like this one.

This piece is titled Dinner at home. It is the same size as Home In You— I used a canvas sheet from the same pad. It’s a relatively straightforward image, so this will be another short chitchat.. but I basically wanted to capture a moment from our domestic life. At home, I tend to keep to myself in the art studio most of the time- but often get to spend dinner time with my husband and my mother in law. I’m an introvert but I really enjoy living with others, and I feel lucky that I can get some of my social fill simply by heading down stairs into the communal area of the house and I can retreat to my own tasks when I need to. Do you have a situation like that? Do you prefer living alone, or with others? I definitely over the years have realized I feel much healthier and happier when there are other living beings in or around my space.
Anyway, this image actually started off as a quick and smaller sketch that I made a while ago and you saw a glimpse of it in this footage, next to the larger work. And in February, my goal was to push myself to paint larger, so I decided to scale up this existing drawing as practice.
It was fun to bring it to size and to see the colors become more vibrant in the new medium I was making it in. The original sketch was just something silly and quick that I did in water color and color pencil on paper- so you can see it’s pretty washed out. Oil paints are so rich with saturation and it brought such a brightness to the scene. I filled the big table with cartoony and colorful iterations of the food we often eat and cook at home, and also evened out the composition for the now wider frame. All in all, another fun painting that I greatly enjoyed. And also very motivating! There is a part of me that wants to keep making larger and larger pieces.

This month’s sticker is a little sticker sheet of the painting! I thought I’d try something new. You can remove the little foods! If you're part of the happy mail tier, I hope you look forward to receiving it in the mail soon. If you're not yet part of that tier but want to get in on this. Be sure to sign up before the end of the month, when I do my mail outs.

Hope you are all having a wonderful day so far, and as always, thank you for watching and supporting my work.

I'll chat with you again very soon.
