[blog: 7/12/2024] πŸ–ΌοΈ getting art framed, prep for gallery

hello friends!
hope you are doing well! I thought I would share what I've been up to more recently in a casual blog post as a little time capsule for both you and myself. I'd like to do these more often here and there when the motivation hits so that I can keep you up to date with my creative journey.

πŸ–ΌοΈ
in the recent months, I took all my paintings to get professionally scanned so that I could have high quality files of them for prints and also so I could use the files for future products and digital projects! That was some time around May.. which coincided with getting laid off and also getting accepted at a gallery in the city that I applied and interviewed for! (talk about emotional whiplash.)

since that interview, I got accepted as a gallery member and also got a spot in an upcoming group show to show/sell my work in October- which I'm thrilled about! I'm excited to see how things go and if it goes well, I'm also really excited about potentially regularly showing work in more physical spaces. (on the day job front, I'm also feeling less stressed because I was able to line up some work for the next few months. as scary as dealing with lay offs was- I'm starting to feel a lot more optimistic about being more in control of my own time moving forward)

so then, a couple weeks ago, in preparation for the October gallery spot I arranged a custom framing appointment to get my prints framed. I've never taken my artwork to get professionally framed before and I had so much fun. It was like 2 hours of playing dress up with my art. I didn't realize how much a frame could affect the look of an art piece! Some textures and designs cheapened the work and some others really brought them to life. It was lots of fun. I also had always wanted to see what my oil paintings would look like with fancier museum style frames. Putting the fancy gold frames next to my silly cartoony pictures as if they were old impressionist oil paintings at a museum made me and my husband laugh so much. In some cases, they also actually looked really good!! I ended up letting myself pick an assortment of frames, some of them being comically fancy if the piece worked well with it, some of them more plain and contemporary if the piece worked better with it as well.

the gallery I'm showing at in October is a gallery that sells the work off the walls, meaning if you purchase a piece there, you walk out the door with it. Framing them at this point was essentially finalizing them as the products they were going to be in the show, so I am really excited to get my order back and see them all finished! Hopefully they sit well together on the wall.

here are some photos of the appointment:

yellow, yellow, yellow.

it's going to be my first time showing any of my work from this series in a gallery space, so I'm nervous but also so excited! I brought 11 pieces to get framed, but I'm not certain yet whether or not I'll be putting all of them on the wall. We'll see!

since I started this series, I have eagerly wanted to move towards gallery work and never really thought I'd be able to. This first step at this small artist run space is extremely motivating, and makes me want to keep creating work and applying to other spaces as well. Maybe one day I'll have enough work to do my own solo show...! Until then I feel excited to keep on painting, painting, painting.

I'm writing/queueing this sometime in early July and as you read this, likely hoping to share more with you soon! 🌻wishing you well.

all my love
