Cole still is the best “Rapper” out of the 3. While I like all of them I look at them differently. Dot is an artist and Drake is entertaining. People pretend Drake didn’t make summers enjoyable for yearsss. While I never liked full albums from the guy Drake always had one or 2 songs that would make it on the playlist every year. While we had to wait on Cole every 2-3 years and Dot every 4-5 years. Drake would be the snack you eat while waiting on your full meal ( Cole or Dot album).

So Cole is my favorite rapper. And this is probably the best rap song this year. His rapping here is impeccable. I’ve been following him since forever. And I understand both sides, so I know why people are mad at him. Cole have this thing of casting stones then pretending he didn’t, or he chooses when he wants to be that naive guy. He’s done it multiple times then he always try to rewrite what happens.
False prophet he called out Kanye. Then years later he was praising Ye for some of the things he called him out for.
When the wave of mumble rappers came out. He made KOD calling them out. It was mostly aimed at lil pump, but he then also kinda grouped in a lot of the lils, like yachty and uzi, and other newer age rappers that then went on to have great albums like xxxt and juice world. He then years later had an interview with yachty and when yachty called him out for what he said about him and his pairs. I shot you not Cole himself said at the time he was hating on all the lils.
Then here with the Drake and Kdot beef. He was pretending like anyone was expecting him and Kdot beef to be anything like the Drake beef. Everyone was only expecting a lyrical joust between them. And DRAKE was the one that made that beef messy. Anyways Cole dissed Dot (casted the stone) first then decided actually let’s not. Thennnn he goes and releases multiple songs with multiple of the 20 people Drake was beefing with at the time. It looked so weird. That’s plain pretending to be naive at that point. How are you saying you out of this beef, then proceeds to release song after song with the same people that is beefing with Drake in the mits of the beef?
Then a week after Drake goes on a rant about how he feel all the people that he considered friends or that call him friends ain’t been there for him or even had anything to say about him. Then you release this song? It just looks weird.
Like I said I’m a Cole fan. But he does this I’m to mature for everything but somehow always has his foot in the mess. Either you are to mature for it and stay clear or you in it. He needs to stop trying insert himself then later come in and say “ what I was trying to say or what I meant was” type sht.
We like you because you ride your bike and stay out the way FOR THE MOST PART, but the few times you don’t we SEE and SEE us see you. Then you pretend like we didn’t.

One of the best songs of 2024 he address it beautifully and many people like what he said so do i. Not many people understood what he said but regardless he had to see he can move on with the fall off. For me he is still the greatest rapper of this generation and if the fall off was classic then he will beat nas and become the greatest of all times.

J.cole is the goat and he will out rap any rapper in the same song. Rap beef is not like before social media is making everything worse the guy dont want to hurt his family and put them across fire.

I think there’s valid points on all sides here and I love this song for the discussions it’s inspiring. I also think there’s a couple things getting misconstrued: 1. I don’t think Cole was saying he would’ve won I think he’s saying he had no place in the beef and it wasn’t worth it for him regardless of the outcome. I also think that Cole still believes he’s number 1 and is saying he didn’t need to engage in a beef to prove that. 2. I see a lot of people saying that he’s sneak dissing Kendrick by only mentioning Drake by name when imo, I think he was speaking to the common narrative and misconception that he’s siding with Kendrick and against Drake because of the apology and the features he’s done with some of Drake’s opposition. Either way, Kendrick is the goat, but Cole has been rapping at a legendary level for a long time. The fan in me wishes him and Drake weren’t friends so they could battle it out for that second spot 😂 but obviously Cole has no interest in that. If Cole is rapping like this on the Fall Off it’s going to be a classic.

I believe he had to speak to this and clear the lane .. now it’s time for his concept album rollout this was not going to fit on the album.. and if he didn’t every line on the album would of been taken out of context “is he talking about Drake/ken on every song

no worries at all lol. i thought you were saying he should’ve kept the song, not just keeping that thought to himself. i was astonished lol. cole will never back down from that “ill kill whoever” attitude and confidence.

no thats fair. i only said he shouldve kept it to himself so that he would avoid criticism. as you can see, people are giving him a hard time now and dont even care what he feels or meant. i didnt mean to imply that he had to fold 🙏

yes for sure. we were thinking out loud but that’s pretty much the conclusion we arrived at. at first it might seem like he’s saying he could have won but he didn’t want to participate, and that’s why we understand some people’s “outrage” lol, but ultimately we think he’s actually saying it just wasn’t worth it to him/he doesn’t think that’s what rap should be about. a lot of respect for him

completely agree about cole being “on the fence” of his two ideologies but i couldnt believe when you said he should’ve kept the song. cole’s not trying to convince anyone he’s the best. he’s telling you how HE feels. you’re allowed to critique the contradicton but to say he should just fold and consider himself the second best or whatever just bc of what public perception is feels crazy to me. great reaction though. thought yall were 100% fair otherwise

You guys are spot on.....few things are as innate to a rapper as being overtly confident, competitive and braggadocious. He's trying to reconcile that with his pacifist stance in the beef. Ultimately, it won't be as contradictory if he just never released '7 minute drill'. The song is great, and Cole will keep being great regardless....and I'm looking forward to the album

tired of watching this guy play the middle man every time. this is clearly damage control for the people (and maybe drake himself) who thought Cole took the first real shots to start the war, then abandoned the guy who’s side he was on or at least neutral to at that point. maybe i’m too immature in my thinking, idk.

Btw, I'm more of a Kendrick fan myself. I just respect the way he gave his own perspective instead of saying some bullshit others wanted to him to say.

Personally, I didn't take this song as him saying "I could've won". Maybe I just overlooked something, but to me it sounded more like him just saying he doesn't see the worth in beefing. But he's still reaffirming his skills with lines like "find a n* out that's rappin this incredibly". (I know he was literally calling anyone out before this, but I looked at this as more of a change in mindset while still believing in his skills.)

Regardless of where in the top-3 he ranks for people, I think without question he’s in the big-3 for this generation. I don’t mind him saying that he thinks he’s the best in terms of rap “skill”. Any great in any field thinks they are the best, or why even do it?
