Hey folks! We got a busy week of revisions here, so I am showing off another UNEDITED preview attached to this post. Since classes are getting a lot of revisions at the moment, I thought I'd show you something a little less volatile: consumables for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th echelon.
As a reminder...
-There will be typos and inconsistencies in here due to lack of edit. You don't need to point them out to us.
-Many of the names of treasures will likely be changing.
-This isn't close to the final layout.
One other thing you'll notice is that we have replaced the word "attack" with "strike." Draw Steel has always made a distinction between damaging abilities that target distinct creatures or objects (formerly called attack abilities and now called strike abilities) and damaging abilities that affect all targets in a cube, line, aura, or other area of effect (called area abilities). This distinction is made for a few reasons, but chief among them is that there are times we want players to be able to add damage to a strike, but not an area ability for both narrative and balance reasons. The damage bonus typically enjoys a larger multiplier in an area ability. As a result, the classes that strike more often than area often get passed over for these damage bonuses from conduits, tacticians, troubadours, and the like since bonus goes further with area abilities. Well area abilities already enjoy the big benefit of multiple targets, so it's important to us that some (not all) of these bonuses get applied to strikes. It also makes more narrative sense for many abilities and effects if they work with just strikes or just area abilities.
Our playtest coordinators have been reporting for a while now that people think that ANYTHING that damages other creatures or objects is an attack, which winds up with a wonky interpretation of some of the rules and some overpowered area abilities. It makes sense for folks to think that, especially if they're coming from d20 fantasy, which often uses the word attack to mean "anytime you're rolling a d20 to attempt to deal damage." So in order to cut out the confusion, we're trying a new term.
We know that's different and is going to sound a little jargony to some folks at first, but that is actually the point. We want you to NOTICE when the text is calling out a strike.
That's it for now! Let's get a look at some consumable treasures.
