So for the past few months I've been trying the 3D route to supplement and enhance my work, but ultimately fell out of favor with it simply because it didn't produce the results I was looking for and was way too cumbersome for the way I ultimately wanted to approach my work.
Strangely however, my work with 3D inadvertently rekindled in me my love of programming, which is something I've been immersing myself in (for work and for play) to see how I can leverage that passion of mine to help with my artwork. Traditionally, those two paths don't cross very well, but I have a feeling the universe is telling me to take an uncharted path here.
I've already written a program to help me assist with colors ("Drink With Friends" and "Cutest Cheerleader" are examples of works that I used to palette generator with).
I've now written a new version of it that's a million times better and much more closely aligned with what I wanted in the first place. The current piece is being drawn with the assistance of this app.
I'm also writing a "perspective draftsmanship assist" application that will help do what 3D was supposed to help me do.
The path I'm now taking is more of a hybrid "procedural programmer artist" where I use my own custom made tools to really amplify and enhance the 2D drawing process. I'm excited for this direction as it more closely aligns with my natural proclivities, so we'll see how it goes.
Will share more sketches later this week.
