SimBro resErection

Time to talk about the Simbro remake! I've been secretly working on this for a while now, and it has taken everything in me not to talk about it until I had something to show. So without further ado, let's get into what to expect with this revamp!

So, unlike the rnot2000 revamps, this project is a huge undertaking. I virtually have nothing to work with in terms of art or anything else. I'm starting from zero, and it will take time to get the game to where I want it to be. But enough of that, let's talk about everything in more detail.

Art
As you may have noticed, the art is vastly different from the original. We didn't just use the old art or "improve apon it" because the original art belongs to an artist (Playshapes, I think) who has since revoked the free use licence. I wanted to respect that and decided that a new "modern" art style would work best for this project.

Story
For those who have played the game, you may remember that the story and translations were not well done. Although somewhat thought out, the story felt rushed and didn't have a ton of pacing. For this reason, we plan to hire writers to improve the existing story. We don't want to change many things, but we want to make the story more engaging. For now, we are going to stick to the original story and script for the sake of getting a demo released.

Gameplay
Honestly, the gameplay was something that many players felt was done well. The game featured many mechanics that people seemed to adore. We plan to keep all the mechanics in the game. I see things that need a ton of improvement (like the combat and brothel management systems), but I can't imagine the game without the original mechanics. With that said, this will be the most challenging part of this undertaking. Why? You ask. Unlike the Story and Art, the mechanics are hidden behind a poorly written flash game. I've decompiled the original game to look at the code, which is terrible. I honestly can't understand any of the code, which is not ideal. I'm sure I'll be able to mimic the original gameplay, but I can guarantee that it won't be precisely the same as the original.

Improvements
As someone who got into programming due to the frustration of playing other people's buggy and unpolished games, I have a lot of things I want to improve on. I want to add quality of life improvements to navigating the map and managing your "staff". I also want to make the combat system more in-depth by adding more abilities and making the stats play a more significant part. All in all, I have big plans to not only improve on SimBros but to bring it to a fully finished game that you'll want to play multiple times.

I hope everyone is looking forward to SimBro resErection. If you haven't played the original, give it a try on Newgrounds or look it up on google. As always, let me know what you think by leaving a comment and thank you for your continued support and patience.

I'm so happy you're looking forward to the remake! I can't wait to show everyone some of the quality of life improvements I'll be making.

Im really excited for this remake.

Thanks, Invictus! Making games is my passion so this means a lot to me.

The Gentle Viking

As long as you are working on this project you'll have my support :)

The sketch in the previous post was, unfortunately, just a concept, but we do plan to have to use the hairstyle and clothes in the game. I'll be sure to post a picture of the samus-ish character in a later post so you can see for yourself. While I'm thinking of it, we do plan to have different breast sizes, and faces for the female characters as well, so I'm sure you will be able to acquire a similar-looking character in-game.

The Gentle Viking

That is relief for me, you prepared for it and good to know you won't be using flash (some say it is one of the main reasons remakes cann't succeed). I have to think what I want to know, but for now I have tiny little question: the sketch from previous post (samus-ish), will it be... em... finished? I love the look of it. Or is it just concept art?

Greetings! No worries I'm not offended at all. Simbro does have a bad history of people trying to remake it. I can recall four abandoned remakes, and I know at least two other developers trying to take on this massive undertaking. You are correct that the game has a reputation of being cursed, but I think that the reason it has this reputation has more to do with the inexperienced developers and not so much the game itself. I'll use Game Maker Studio to do this remake and Spine to do the animations. Flash is a dead engine, in my opinion, and I think it's one of the main reasons the game has never been successfully remade. I've been using Game Maker since 2006, so I'm familiar with the coding language and capabilities. Thank you for taking the time to chat and ask questions. I love addressing concerns and talking about these types of things. I'm happy to answer all your questions about the old Simbro and the remake I'm working on.

So... I decided to say some words (duh) about Simbro. Don't take it as offense, but I just wanna warn you and make you think if you are really up to the task. You are not first that decided to remake it, the other shared same fate as Simbro (one has problems even before he started working for good). Some say it is curse... Well I don't believe in it, but sure it didn't come from nowhere. (If you want I can give you some titles). Nonetheless, I really want you to succeed, sure there are people who will want it too, just be wary as many others can be rather sceptical. And last but not least, what game engine are you going to use? Or are you planning to stay with Flash? I will have more questions if you don't mind, but I will wrap it up for know.
