a quick poll

we are getting near the end of the year, which and I have run into a snag on one of my silly media consumption projects: at least two movies from my film randomizer list are not viewable.
for anyone who doesn't remember, one of the goofy-ass projects I started this year - and that is tracked in the monthly quantifica updates - is a list of 42 (technically 43) films that I am trying to get through before the end of the year, which I select by hitting "shuffle" on Letterboxd.
and the issue is that a couple of those films - Jonah Who Will Be 25 in the Year 2000 and Demigod: The Legend Begins - are not available on any medium. they've come up on my random rolls several times, and each time I have failed to find them anywhere, and after spending a full afternoon trying to track down copies, I have determined it is not possible. Jonah is not on any English-language streaming service, and the only online copies I have found are in its original Swiss French with, if I'm lucky, subtitles in Italian or German. Demigod is simply not on any platform at all, not that I can find anyway. for anyone ready to recommend illegitimate sources, I have explored those quite thoroughly as well, and, no, neither film can be streamed or torrented even on pirate sites. Jonah can be purchased on DVD for $60, which is more than I'm willing to spend on a movie I've never seen, and Demigod isn't even available on disc that I can find!
so I have to decide how I want to handle unwatchable films, and I have decided to let you decide for me. do I
a) admit defeat and accept that the list will max out at 40/42 films
b) remove the films from the list, reducing it to 40
c) replace unwatchable films with new films to keep the number at 42
d) a secret fourth option
if you've got a minute, please vote!

FWIW: I can find both with English subs on a private tracker I have access to. I would be happy to grab them.

2024-11-01 23:44:15 +0000 UTCI'm in the camp of not fiddling with data. You set a target, you won't reach the target for reasons out of your control now, but the data are the data. You won't reach the initial objective and that's ok.

2024-11-01 11:16:39 +0000 UTCI'm not *struggling* to complete it, I'm slightly behind schedule but it's very doable. bumping it down to 40 would make it easier, but I didn't do this to go easy on myself!

2024-10-31 21:09:17 +0000 UTCEDIT: Turns out it's on the Internet Archive with EN subtitles, just not the first minute https://archive.org/details/jonas-qui-aura-25-ans-en-lan-2000-1976-alain-tanner The Jonas one can be found in VHS for only 40$ XD More seriously, there's an EN subtitle you can download, after a quick look it seems like it's the correct movie. But it's probably easier to just pick 2 other movies.

2024-10-31 20:09:08 +0000 UTCI'd say it's reasonable to replace them! Unless you're struggling to complete it and would benefit from sticking to 40 films. For what it's worth I've made a request for both on TorrentDay but I don't have high hopes there! I'm not surprised Jonah wasn't there but a little surprised Demigod wasn't

2024-10-31 18:59:25 +0000 UTCI think if there are two more movies that could be interesting, why limit the list. Although, if it becomes too stressful or a chore, 40 movies are not bad!
