I just joined this group, and I am doing a very unconventional way of language learning than what I am used to which is a combination of everything reading, writing, listening, etc. like in college languages courses. I decided to focus on phonetics and learning kana/hiragana completely. Even if I have to learn from watching raw Japanese media without English or Japanese subtitles, just to be familiar with the sounds! I learned Kanji in the past, so in that regard, those years of learning Chinese in college and abroad did pay off somehow because the emphasis on stroke order was figuratively "beaten" into me! lol. I intend to enter a 1-2 year language school sometime in January next year in Japan but I haven't decided if it will be in Tokyo or Yokohama yet. But this language learning experience is gonna be the adventure of a lifetime for me.
