Trying something new: if you're fast you can see it before it goes live to the public.

When can we expect part 2 you teased us with?

RJCa5533

This was a great summary of Guns, Germs, and Steel. Have you thought about doing a video of Jared Diamonds, Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed?

David Kernell

Great job! I love how there is a 4k 60 fps viewing option on the video!

Sina Farhat

I feel like the slow speaking speed was very appropriate for the subject matter.

Miranda Walker

1.25x is actually a better speed for your speech, I think. Still slower than you're used to, but better than...this...slow

Yeah, I think the quick fire delivery is one of your strengths CGP Grey. Recommend you revert back to the previous speed.

SovietWomble

Could you please share with us the link to the source used to draw the map at 06:43 (the one with early man migration.) I would like to learn a little more about that for myself.

Man of multiple bones

Excellent video! Thank you. What the story with Part 2 with which we have been tempted?

RJCa5533

Really great video. But I feel like the slow spoken-ness (is that a word?) was over done. The whole time watching it I was looking for the smart-speed option to take the pauses .... out .... from .... between the ... words. DAMMIT ... SPOCK!

James Sutherland

"Nothing but drama these lamas." LMAO!

James Sutherland

I loved the video, thank you!

Myrddin Emrys

Awesome video! I watched it at 1.25 speed though.

Victoria

Civ V all over this video I love it! BRING ANGRY GANDHI!

Kenno Arkkan

I really like the longer (and slower spoken) format. One or two of these a year would be amazing. I realize that they probably take longer to make, which is why we haven't see a long form video since Humans Need Not Apply. But here's hoping.

Aaron Walsh

YouTube has a speed option for viewers who prefer a quicker pace (Classic speed).

DrJKL

The graphics and metaphors in this video leave me with no option but to think a really depressing tabletop game is in the works...

jason black

Fascinating, good pace.

The slower pace gave me time to absorb the information this time around. I like it!

Brandon Quinn

Noticed you spoke slower than what you normally do. 😞 Interesting video tho.

Nice and interesting video, but you do speak a tad too slowly.

Enjoyed this. The depth and clarity of information seems just right. The only thing I'd say is that the pacing is a bit slow. Perhaps one way to work through that is vary the music a little more, and maybe boost it in the mix by a few db.

I want to play civilization 5... those hexagons must mean something :p

Gilberto

I really liked it. It felt like your humans need not apply video.

Bill Pengelly

Is part 2 spawned from the Dog Whisperer thing you were talking about on HI a long time ago?

cool, loved it, but it's too slow...

I would like it fast again too.

It's SO slow! I prefer your faster videos.

Also, I loved the slowed down format and the more serious Grey material. I love all of your videos, but my favorite is Humans Need Not Apply. You excel at visiting and going down the rabbit hole with topics and fleshing out those topics. And this video and the famous Humans Need Not Apply feel less like visiting the rabbit hole and more like inhabiting them. Great stuff. Please do more longer form and deeper topics. Feels like you are becoming a documentarian.

Trekspertise

Today I learned the term "baker's dozen".

Emil Rasmussen

Great stuff. This subject is right up my academic alley. I recognize the animal domestication hypothesis popularized by Jared Diamond, which is contentious, but on the right track, I feel. However, the cities and population profile of the Americas feels thin here. The nations of North America, for example, were up to 90% sedentary. The Anasazi, the Mississippians and the many Mexican civilizations contained millions of people (The Aztecs and surrounding environs flirted with a number upwards of 20 million through their own census). Tenochtitlan was larger in population than any single European city at the time of its "discovery" by Europeans. This doesn't quite relate to the disease narrative you've presented here, which is CRUCIAL to understand and worth talking about. Maybe it is a nitpick. However, considering the history of disenfranchisement of the Americas, it is an important part of the profile. Nevertheless, I applaud your topic choice, truly. Americans generally have no clue why the Americas were settled and are certainly unaware of the astounding role that disease played in all of it. Without disease, Europeans would still be primarily in Europe.

Trekspertise

Excellent, again! Speed: I prefer the old speed, if I had to pick between the two. But speed is continuous, so I am sure a good middle ground can be found.

Andreas Junghanns

One of the best so far.

I love this choice of topic, and I think this video is well put-together, but in a lot of places it feels like you're artificially slowing down your reading pace so much that it's actually a little distracting.

rocketfox

I really like this, but I miss the faster pace.

How fast?! Seems to be published on YouTube 5 minutes later..

Is it just me, or are you trying to speak really slowly compared to your regular speed?

This might be your best video yet. It's certainly up there with Humans Need Not Apply.

Little dark for you... I like it
