Fall updates
Added 2019-11-17 02:05:05 +0000 UTCHey gang,
So ignoring hiatuses, the goal in general for my channel is to release at least one fully produced video per month. Obviously that has not been the case of late, and I figured I at least owed it to people an explanation of what's going on behind the scenes, since at the face the answer appears to be "nothing" when in fact it's "lots."
So the first ~ exclusive ~ that hasn't been announced publicly is It's Lit! is coming back to PBS Digital Studios in 2020, and this time for a lot more episodes! This will present some challenges with regard to my main channel and keeping that more or less on track for regular uploads, but I have a good team and for this round, we're also bringing on Princess Weekes (who by day is assistant editor at The Mary Sue) to be co-writer and co-host, in addition to some of the writing work she's being doing for my channel. We're also producing a mini-series for The Financial Diet on the subject of money and movies/film - look for that on their YouTube channel in early 2020.
But the biggest thing for me that I uh... forgot to announce here (sorry) you probably already know if you follow me on Twitter is that my debut novel that I've been working on for years in ~secret~, Axiom's End, is being published by St. Martins Press in July, 2020, it's got aliens in it (pre-order link here: http://bit.ly/AxiomsEnd ) So while this book is more or less in the can (I'm at the copy edit stage right now, which, woof) thing is I pitched these jerks at St Martins a series, and this is only book one, so if you see me tweeting about neologisms and writing a thing that takes place in 2008, this is that. Hoofing it to get that first draft written as quickly as possible has been a big chunk of how I've been spending my last two months. And it hasn't even been announced yet and likely won't be until.... early 2020! I'm extremely burned out!
Anyway, the next video I release (for my main channel) will be about that and the unholy hell involved in pursuing a career in traditional publishing (hope ya like rejection), and I'll have some semi-gratuitous Phantom of the Opera-related content after that. I don't know how realistic it will be to keep to the schedule of a fully produced essay per month next year, but we'll do the best we can.
Thank you all for your support and for generally being cool dudes,
Lindsay

So... which one of these pre-order options gives you the most cred and money? Because if they are all the same then I go amazon since I live in the far away north of europe.

2019-12-06 21:19:57 +0000 UTCHi, Ya! Hope you're well. I preordered your book through your site. Can't wait!
2019-12-05 08:28:16 +0000 UTCIf you want a smaller publisher to look at your series...Hermes Press is down for that :-)
2019-11-26 14:41:27 +0000 UTCThanks for the update! Take breaks as you need. I'd also totally be up for some Loose Canon style shorter content if that makes it easier to scratch the itch of getting things out once a month. :) Congrats on the book!

2019-11-24 04:52:16 +0000 UTCWow, looks like you have lots of things going, congratulations. I'm happy that you're getting published, can't wait to read your book. At the same time, I hope you can recover from the burnout, as all of this looks extremely taxing. Best of luck for all your projects :-)
2019-11-20 15:45:27 +0000 UTCYup! It'll come out the day the hardcover does

2019-11-19 20:46:56 +0000 UTCSo exciting! Are there plans for an audio version of the book?
2019-11-19 20:22:19 +0000 UTCVery hype for the Thing Bad video about traditional publishing. Hope you're all good at Lindsay Ellis Inc. Much love!

2019-11-19 18:16:09 +0000 UTCPreordered the book! Good content 2020
2019-11-19 15:10:26 +0000 UTCFor some weird reason despite not being a writer I really like to watch writers advice videos, particularly ones about the trails and tribulations of traditional publishing, like the ones by Alexa Donne and Meg LaTorre. Can't wait for your take on the subject!
2019-11-19 13:06:32 +0000 UTCI'm just a simple man. When new Lindsay content comes out, I watch it. (Soon to be read/watch, Congrats on your new book btw) When there's no new content I assume you are hard at work, and I patiently wait for you to perfect your next piece. Everything you have put out has enough quality content to keep me thinking until your next release, so no worries from me about deadlines. (When I say Lindsay I mean the whole team. You all do amazing work! )

2019-11-18 20:35:18 +0000 UTCLove you girl, do your thing!
2019-11-18 17:54:33 +0000 UTCWould love it if you were to use this as a way to link us to all the stuff you're putting out! I just really like hearing your voice, so anything that you're in, I'll definitely listen to!

2019-11-18 14:46:21 +0000 UTCFirst and foremost I support a couple people on Patreon to chip in a little with the ultimate goal of helping crowdfund some breathing room for the supported party to pursue something they're passionate about. In some cases this results in videos, no exceptions, in some cases it's like those kickstarters you support, then hear nothing from for a year or two until they announce to your surprise and delight they succeeded and you'll be seeing the fruits of their labor soon! (Which bears similarity to the current situation I suppose?) It's nice to get an update, and my inner hipster is proud to support an author before they were published. I only ever managed to experience that with Bob Chipman. Back to the reassuring words and positive vibes: VERY COOL, 1/7168th of your moderate ... guilt(?) that you can ignore.
2019-11-17 23:10:24 +0000 UTCMissed your videos but all this is good news! Congrats!

2019-11-17 22:40:45 +0000 UTCOooh, those upcoming videos sound interesting! And I'm really looking forward to more It's Lit!

2019-11-17 19:02:40 +0000 UTCYes, although most of it will be narrated by a woman so...

2019-11-17 18:58:10 +0000 UTCThanks for the update. I was just thinking about how I hadn't seen anything from you and your team recently, but without twitter, I didn't know about your other projects. I really do appreciate the occasional updates on Patreon for us weirdos who don't use social media - thanks again, and I'm looking forward to your new content when it comes out.

2019-11-17 16:43:53 +0000 UTCSo many cool things coming down the pipe! I'm excited -- and I'm definitely requesting that all my libraries buy your book :)
2019-11-17 16:21:03 +0000 UTCI publish my first novel with st martins in the mid 90's. traditional publishing was good for the ego but hard on the soul. You're good at what you do.
2019-11-17 15:00:31 +0000 UTCSounds good, Lindsay and the team. Thanks for the update! Looking forward to all this good stuff.

2019-11-17 14:59:49 +0000 UTCAll good, you set your own pace, so that it works for you. You take care of yourself before us. Also, if it help, I'm subscribed here more as a way to reward you for all the great content you've offered me until now., not as an "employer" for future work.
2019-11-17 14:54:52 +0000 UTCSounds like good news. More awesome content coming from an awesome person.
2019-11-17 12:46:53 +0000 UTCMy draw to your content was always the quality rather than the quantity. I’d rather you take longer to make content you are happy with than to rush it to meet some arbitrary deadline.
Bonnie Fiddis
2019-11-17 09:31:42 +0000 UTCQuality over quantity :) Well done on all the developments! As we say in Ireland, keep her lit!!

2019-11-17 09:01:25 +0000 UTCSo, Does St. Martin's have a narrator lined up for the audiobook release yet? Because I, uh... know a professional narrator who might be interested.... (It's me....)
2019-11-17 08:47:00 +0000 UTC"and for generally being cool dudes". About that, I loved your speech at xoxo, and your statement on twitter about your friendship with Natalie. Good words.

2019-11-17 08:12:46 +0000 UTCNo apologies needed. I know how hard it is to get good content created. I'd rather patronize (non-insulting manner) you and get great content at a slow-drip pace than the opposite of that where you churn out daily bad content like a Paul brother.
2019-11-17 05:40:50 +0000 UTCI have been following you from your n-chick days and its amazing to see how much you have done!! amazing stuff, can't wait to read your book
2019-11-17 05:36:55 +0000 UTCLet me echo what others have already said: I'm here for the quality, not quantity. I look forward to whatever you create. Take your time and take care of yourself! These times are stressful enough without adding self-flagellation to the mix (unless you enjoy that sort of thing, of course!).
Lin Kibblemom
2019-11-17 05:13:07 +0000 UTCThe way I see it, I patronize you ( I mean it in the not-asshole connotation) to be an artist who makes cool stuff. Whether that’s on the main channel, with PBS, or in your own book, I’m cool with it. So no worries, and remember to take care of your health!
2019-11-17 04:39:15 +0000 UTCCongrats on the series! And we love your videos whenever they come out, please do your best to pace yourself.

2019-11-17 04:00:46 +0000 UTCI'd say it's more inspired by watching both Independence Day and The Big Short way too many times
Lindsay Ellis
2019-11-17 03:49:04 +0000 UTCCongrats on the book series! I look forward to reading it :) No worries at all, take all the time you need -- publishing is rough! I am very intrigued by Axiom's end, I wonder if you got any inspiration for it from your other work?

2019-11-17 03:06:32 +0000 UTCWe love you Lindsay, you keep doing you!

2019-11-17 02:53:16 +0000 UTCThe fact that you put out videos as often as you do with all that you've got going on is genuinely impressive. I'm here because your work is always quality, I don't need quantity!
2019-11-17 02:51:27 +0000 UTCReally excited to read your book, and then the next one, and whenever and however often you produce youtube content I look forward to it.
Anne and the Apocalypse
2019-11-17 02:41:11 +0000 UTCYou do you, boo. You're killing it! Just looking forward to the next content whenever it comes out.

2019-11-17 02:39:52 +0000 UTCthank you!!
Lindsay Ellis
2019-11-17 02:34:43 +0000 UTCTruth is there was some... behind the scenes chaos with the writing. Not sure how to proceed, but I do hope to finish it one day.
Lindsay Ellis
2019-11-17 02:34:19 +0000 UTCPhew, you are having quite the year. Congrats on the book and hang in there.
Get To Know Nature
2019-11-17 02:33:59 +0000 UTCThe rejection hell is so deeply painfully real -- I think my friends and family are probably all deeply concerned over the number of John Kennedy Toole jokes I make at this point. I'm so glad you pushed through it and got out the other side!
Mary Borsellino
2019-11-17 02:33:02 +0000 UTCThat’s all dope shit, and I’m really excited for your success! Super excited to hear about all of it, esp the series with the Financial Diet. I also echo the previously stated sentiment that whenever you do post, I know it will be quality and look forward to it.
Amber S.
2019-11-17 02:19:22 +0000 UTCTo be honest I could give a fuck how often you put out videos, I know they're always gonna be great and I'm just happy to support your work.
Shiny Skunk
2019-11-17 02:15:35 +0000 UTCWOO! I'm so happy for you. I went and immediately pre-ordered the book. :)

2019-11-17 02:15:29 +0000 UTCDear Lindsay - I am just happy to see you creating your work in any form, and I know how all the behind-scenes stuff is vastly more and harder than it appears on the surface. I eagerly await your tales of book publishing encounters as well as the opportunity to read the first in your new series. Also just want to say that you are a genuinely exciting and interesting voice in everything I've seen you do, so that's why I like to support this Patreon, it's not specific to any one kind of work that you do. Hope this turns out to create a whole new audience for you!
2019-11-17 02:14:59 +0000 UTCOnce in a full moon when I rewatch your content after your new ones come out.
2019-11-17 02:14:40 +0000 UTCJokes aside, thank you for your work and your dedication to the nebulous world of YouTubery. We appreciate you!

2019-11-17 02:13:05 +0000 UTCWhat happened to the Whole Plate? On indefinite hiatus or canceled?

2019-11-17 02:11:39 +0000 UTCSuper pumped to hear more about the publishing process! I’m curious how that works. And for phantom content👀
2019-11-17 02:08:20 +0000 UTCYay Lindsay! Congrats on all the hard work and good news!!!!
2019-11-17 02:08:03 +0000 UTCYou keep being you’re awesome self. And take a breather when you can
