Delays, LoSC and the Deal Right Now

I will try to make this brief and not speak out of ignorance, but since I did say I was going to keep a schedule things need be known.

As you may or may not know, I have no control over League of Super Critics. If you follow the YouTube channel I share with Doug, Brad and Todd you may have noticed that there haven't been updates from any of us for a few weeks. I'm told this has something to do with ad revenue and/or being able to upload videos longer than fifteen minutes. Things filter down to me in piecemeal, but the honest truth is I don't know why exactly the channel has been put on a sort of moratorium.

Now, normally this would not be a problem except for the nature of the show - the episode needs to go up on Chez, Blip and YouTube within about a day of each other if I'm able to tally and count a goodly number of votes within a relatively short timespan - usually about two days. Meaning that the voting for Loose Canon episodes usually only spans about 72 hours, and a huge chunk of those votes come from the YouTube audience. This wasn't a problem for the next episode (King Kong) as that one was my executive decision, but this will pose a problem for future episodes that are decided by voting.

Some may ask why I don't start my own YouTube channel - well, the truth is I prefer that mine is run by Maker. There are only so many hours in the day, and I'd rather give up some control if it meant I don't have to manage Yet Another Thing, not to mention the not-inconsiderable subscriber count would be pretty impossible to rebuild on my own. However, as you can see, this is posing a problem currently, as I won't be able to post anything for the month of June as the LAST episode hasn't even been posted to YouTube.

So, as for the delay, that is the reason why. I don't know when it will be resolved. For the time being I intend to continue to stick with LoSC, but if this continues to be an issue I may have to explore other avenues. One way or the other, Kong will go up in July, and hopefully by that time it will be mirrored on YouTube.

No it's... complicated. But unrelated. I may try to explain it later.

Are there any updates on the channel situation? Does it have something to do with the closure of Blip I'm hearing about too?

The problem with sharing a channel...

Lindsay Ellis

I offered to do that (even exported Death in two parts and uploaded it privately), Maker said no... so not sure what the deal is there either.

I'll wait as long as it takes. Your vids are worth it :)

What I read on the channel awesome forum is that this is caused by a copyright claim on one of Nostalgia Critic's videos. Hopefully someone at LoSC/Maker/whoever-owns-the-thing is disputing the claim and making sure this get solved.

I'm sorry that it's such a problem; I'm glad you're telling your audience & hopefully most of them prefer for you to take your time rather than rush things.

Lindsay, maybe it would be possible for you to divide the longer new videos into two halves so that they don't pass the 15 mins mark? Maybe that could work better?

just a thoght but what if you made an update video for LoSC with links to both the Death retrospective the King Kong video and the next poll? that way you can keep most of your youtube fan-base

From what it looks like, it's not too serious of a situation. If it takes time for a video to go up on the channel for ad revenue or improvements for the video, we can wait. There isn't really a need for a rush as long as a video dose go up. I love your work, and I can't wait to see more from you!

For anybody who's curious as to what's going on with the LoSC YT channel: I just watched the Jurassic World video by Doug, and if we take this as a springboard, what happened is this: Several reviews have been DMCA flagged by either their studios or some 3rd party. Until this is resolved (and with YT, this can take from a day to a month per video), the channel that was hit with those takedown demands, is "restricted" to only be able to upload videos of no more than 15mins in length, as well as having its ad revenue held in escrow (IIRC) until everything is resolved. Best case scenario: It was one party that did all the requests, and it will be handled as one "item", so to speak. Will still take time, but if it's cleared, all will be cleared in one fell swoop. Worst case: Every review was flagged by a different company. That could take some time to iron out, even with Maker pushing for it. (And as I have come to believe through other people I follow who are under Maker, they DO actually care and work for the channels under their umbrella.) Absolutely Worst Case: The strikes are deemed /correct/. In that case, it might count as either one strike, or three(+) strikes. If the latter, it might shut down the channel. I'm am reasonably certain that this will NOT happen, as Fair Use should really cover all of the reviews. It does for videogames and stuff like the Honest Trailers and other moview/TV Show review channels. My best guess? An overzealous 3rd party flagged the videos and is wasting everybody's times, as well as raising stress levels for everybody involved. :-/
