On November 19th, in a Patron-Only story, FTVLive told you that the Baltimore Association of Black Journalists (BABJ) has publicly expressed "deep concern and disappointment" over a formal complaint alleging leadership failures, a toxic work environment, and mistreatment of several Black journalists at WJZ, the CBS-owned-and-operated (O&O) station in Baltimore, Maryland.
The BABJ called for an independent, third-party review of the newsroom's culture and management, specifically citing General Manager Kathy Hostetter and News Director Tanya Black.
Some of the key allegations by the group, include:
An ongoing pattern of fear and retaliation.
Racial and professional inequities and diminishing morale.
Inconsistent communication, favoritism, and uneven workloads.
Unsanitary work conditions.
A failure to protect, advance, and retain Black journalists.

Insiders tell FTVLive that at one point, station management agreed to meet with the Baltimore Black Journalists, but it appears that meeting has been canceled.
A source tells FTVLive that the group was told that the meeting is no longer palled as the "station's interests do not align with theirs (BABJ)."
No word the suits at CBS have looked into the issues at their O&O, but as one station employee said, "CBS doesn't care one bit."
What's the next step for the BABJ?
Stay tuned....
