if anyone is still trying to find lesbian friends, go to a climbing gym! they are crawling with queer outdoorsy women.

Respectfully, I am a Korean and I just... really highly disagree. I know *many* people who work in the kpop industry and kpop ≠ korean culture. I understand that many people enjoy it but it is just really not that deep. It is like the ultimate capitalist music form--which, that's fine, and I like a lot of problematic things too--but I just find it disingenuous to act like kpop is some expression of korean culture or deeper values

If you want a philosophy-adjacent intro to kpop, one of BTS's albums is loosely inspired by Demian by Herman Hesse, particularly the short films that were created for each song. The first 12 or so songs of the Wings album and the music video for Blood Sweat and Tears are all about loss of innocence, growing up, etc and borrow a lot of themes and symbolism from Demian. Also, incidentally, Demian is apparently an /extremely/ popular book in Korea and is as commonly read in high school as Catcher in the Rye for americans (at least from what I can understand). Also, their newest album, Map of the Soul 7 explores Jungian psychology/philosophy and the functions of Persona, Shadow, and Ego in the context of fame.
