This week has rough for me. I worked until 10pm-11pm every single day this week. I figured since I don’t have much to show, I might as well tell you guys a bit about my comic process and what I do to prepare the arc. Every time we go to a new world or arc, I figure out art direction for it that’s unique to the world as well as create all the character designs. I read the fairytale, read the script, research the author, look into the folk art/illustrations for that fairytale, look at inspiration that fairytale had on society, research the art history of the country from which that fairytale is from, create Pinterest boards of each character, and then design each character sheet. It’s a lot of hidden unseen work that I put into it, but I feel like its absolutely needed in order to do it justice and to respect the culture which that fairytale is from. A lot of these stories had a deep rich cultural impact on people, especially people that grow up with them. Plus by doing this, we can make each story original and fun in its own special way. Some times we have what I call world hopping where we jump back to back into new worlds really fast. 2 week turn arounds fast. That’s what I’m going through right now so I’m scrambling to get everything done. Usually the hardest part is the research and decision making in the first week or two of the arc. Once that is over, the EPs get faster and faster because I just need to focus on the comic panel art. After building an asset sheet of lineart, it gets even smoother. This is project that has a really large scope, it’s a fairy tale epic and I’m so grateful to have such a wonderful team and a talented fun author! I literally wouldn’t be able to do this job without them, so I appreciate them all and their hard work immensely! They help so much to make this comic possible! 💖
