Re:Zero Season 2 Episode 5 Reaction/Review

Subaru passed his first trial, the past. Now the question is, what did Emilia see in her past to be so frightened? Since it isn't really cleanly explained in the show (and I had some questions about the whole thing myself), I did some research and found out, without spoilers, that: When Subaru first encountered Echidna she says that only those acknowledged by a witch can step inside and face the trials, meaning they have to have some type of connection to a witch. (About how Subaru got the Sloth Witch Factor and that's why he was able to enter the graveyard unharmed.) During this episode Ryuzu was also supposed to elaborate more on the contract that let's certain people take the trials, noting that it's a contract made with Echidna herself, coming back to the first point what Echidna herself said to Subaru. And while Garfiel and Ryuzu both can take the trial (mentioned also during this episode), they cannot liberate it because she states specifically that an outsider bearing "the Witch’s qualification” is the one who can truly liberate it. So, since Ryuzu and Garfiel aren't outsiders, they can't free it, but they can enter it and take the trial, meaning they are "acknowledged by a Witch" in some way. Roswaal got hurt by trying to enter the graveyard, so that would mean he's probably not acknowledged by a Witch. In short: It has to be someone from the outside of the sanctuary who has been acknowledged by a witch, that can free the sanctuary. You don't need to be from the outside, but only need the acknowledgement to take the trials. It maybe be a bit twisted but I kinda understand Roswaal here. It was good that the villagers now trust Emilia and the status Emilia and Subaru gained because of the things in season 1, but it all worked out because of Subaru. It's an ugly thought that someone like Roswaal wasn't there intentionally to help Emilia and Subaru, but it did work out in a good way. But just like Subaru said, that's only in hindsight. Not too much else to talk about for this episode, but here we go again with the dying. The bowel hunter is back!
