Also with this show, you really gotta pay attention the whole time cuz on rewatch I’m realizing so many more “micro-acting” or micro-expressions that I missed the first time. It’s so quick and subtle but really characterizes each person very well. E.g., at 7:22, you can see the quick eyebrow movement from Maomao, indicating that she is annoyed with Jinshi (as she always is) but is someone who knows her place and normally would not step out of line. You could see this in this episode too, with how she thinks about what her role is as a food taster: whether she should attend the garden party and also whether she should meddle in the affairs of the “secret code”. This is an important part of her character, so when she does step out of line it would indeed be for quite significant moments as you will see. Animators and directors really cooked with this show, paying attention to even small minute details.
