DEEP DIVE: Are Humans the First Civilization? The Silurian Hypothesis

There are over 7 billion people living on the earth right now. Tens of millions are born and die each year. Every single one of us leaves signs of our existence in the air, water, soil -- even space.

But these signs won't last forever. Our buildings will be gone in a few hundred years. Our stone monuments, plastic, styrofoam, twinkies, even evidence of our inevitable nuclear destruction will eventually be gone.

So how can we be sure that we were the first advanced civilization on earth?

Well, according to the Silurian Hypothesis: we can't.

Let's find out why.

Please forgive this minor correction. Aztec (Tenocha) civilization lasted fewer than two centuries, not ten or more. A better example from the Americas would be Mayan civilization. Loved the episode overall.

14,000 years ago we were definitely here before. Maybe not with the same type of technology but something very different and I'm willing to bet that global flooding even is behind the missing historical record of our past. We must dig up more of the past around the great pyramids in Egypt. But their government keeps getting in the way of humanity solving the missing link to our past. Also I would give anything to see and have access to Burnt Library of Alexandria more of our history probably disappear in that library.
