BTS nude fashion shoot Irina, light setup

I had a content shoot with Irina last weekend, a productive one, over 7k photos, some bts and model videos etc :)

I decided to use only one light source for all the sets that day and started with one hard light and some modifications with the vflats (black and white boards to reflect or keep off light). Since few years I mostly shoot with continuous, since led lamps became good enough to shoot with. I like that I see directly what I get and also can film the model with the same light setup.
In this case my light is an Aputure 600d daylight led. I put 2 vflats on the sides, both with white side to the model to reflect the light to her and placed the light very close to the edge of the right vflat. This way the light is being directly cut off, creating a shadow area behind the model but hitting her from the side. Left vflat filling the shadows, so those are not too dark. This setup creates kind of a late sun hitting around the corner effect. Some of the light also reflects from the ceiling, as I did not put any modifier on the light and it spreads around.

To create more variety inside a photoset I like to change some things up, but instead of moving the light, I first start to move the model around to see how the light falls on her if she changes her position.
When Irina steps back, she is hidden from the direct light source and the main light on her becomes the bounce from the left white board (+ there is fill light in the room of other surfaces). The overall picture becomes way softer, as the direct light source is now a big white board, so a bigger area of light than before (for main light). This gives her more freedom of posing and moving, cause casting bad shadows is not anymore a problem as with the hard light from a side.

Then I wanted her to move up front to the camera, so the light was hitting her from behind and creating a moody darker picture, but her still getting some bounce light from the left side. On the photos 4-6 you can see results from those 3 positions.

My next step was to move the light behind the board and direct it up, so Irina  has very soft light coming from above, and no hard light on her. I also liked the light edge on the wall behind her, so after taking some shots I changed  again and this time moved the lamp up half above the board and directed behind the model to create a diagonal edge of light in the background.

The light on Irina is now similar as in the first setup, but now there is also a different light on the background. If I move the model back, she is getting more of the light on her, if she moves upfront, she is standing in the shadow area = soft light.

When I work like this and model is changing her positions to get different aspects of the same light setup, I mostly only change the ISO on my camera (up for shadow area, down for direct light) and leave other settings same.

Color look on the photos is Zara cold soft look 2, which I uploaded last week.
