Silver opened his eyes, and found himself back in his stool. His head ached, as well as his body. He remembered that uppercut Amy hit him with, and then, the rest was a blur. Whatever advantage he had at the beginning of the match was slowly fading away, along with whatever consciousness he had stored in the tank.
"You seem like you're having fun," A voice said behind him. That was all it took for his hair to stand on end, and he was filled with energy...although not in the way one might think.
Silver peeked behind him and saw Blaze standing with her arms folded across her chest, staring at him crossly. A strange emotion filled his entire being, and he suddenly had an unnatural urge to run. But then, he'd become the laughing stock of everyone in the arena...and that sounded as bad as being around Blaze when she was like this.
"W-well, you know it's uh...ah..." He winced a spark of pain lighting in his head once more.
"I didn't want to think the rumors were true, but you didn't train before this match, did you?" She asked.
"Of course I did! What kind of question is--" He was interrupted by her staring directly into his eyes. "I didn't. I didn't think it would be that hard..."
There was silence between the two for a moment. A minute remained before Silver would have to go back in.
"Uh...tell me...what was Amy talking to you about?" He asked.
"...you're getting concussed for the sake of others and that's your question?"
"She told me the same thing. I just want to know is all."
"...I told her that I hoped she won. To teach you a lesson. And so we could eventually fight, but that's neither here nor there."
"B-but--!" Silver protested.
"You lack maturity. No sane person would have challenged the champion just to impress a girl they liked. I don't know if you've noticed, but the majority of the people here aren't here to see a fairy tale. They're here to see a fight," Blaze said. "You of all people should know this is an awful way to try and impress me."
"...so what then? Am I supposed to just throw the fight and let Amy win?"
"There's no need to."
Something stung about that last sentence. Did Blaze not believe in him? It already hurt enough that she was doing him the favor of denying him his confession before the outcome of the match was even decided...
"I'll show you then...I'm going to win! I don't care if every last one of you isn't taking me seriously. That just makes things easier for me."
"The bell will ring in 15 seconds."
Silver stood up, and jumped on his toes, holding his gloves up. Then, as the bell rang, he shuffled towards the center, leaving Blaze watching him outside the ring. She sighed and shook her head.
"So stubborn."
---
"Hooph--!!" Silver huffed as Amy's straight impaled his stomach. His legs turned to jelly, before eventually they gave out from underneath him, and collapsed on his knees, doubling over and holding his stomach. Amy stepped away from him without a word to a neutral corner, waiting for him to get up. Or stay down. One of the two.
"1!"
"2!"
He tried picking himself up, but the pain was too immense to muster any strength within him. Maybe...maybe Blaze was right. He could be throwing the match right now and the result would still be the same.
"3!"
"4!"
But that was the exact reason why he couldn't lose. It was no longer about impressing Blaze, it was about proving everyone wrong. After all, what use were his words if he couldn't back them up?
"5!"
"6!"
Silver crawled onto his toes rather quickly. His stomach ached, but he didn't care. This was only going to end if he or Amy were unconscious. He wouldn't settle for anything less.
Amy approached him with her gloves up, and the two circled each other. He was much worse for wear, but he wasn't going down without a fight. This much was clear.
"So tell me, Silver. What did--!" Amy was interrupted by Silver swinging his right upwards towards Amy's chest. She swung her upper body back, dodging it narrowly, but at least she had her answer before she could even finish asking the question.
Amy responded with a left jab towards Silver's midsection, which he too dodged. He retaliated with a left straight towards her stomach, which she blocked, dampening much of the effect of the blow.
A left upper from Amy found nothing but air, And a right jab from Silver had much of the same effect. The two weren't matching each other exactly, but this exchange was showing Amy that it was going to be a bit more difficult to take him down than she previously thought. Before she could fight back, however, Silver took advantage of the pace and followed up with a left hook aimed at Amy's head. She blocked once more, but let out a short grunt, the impact from the blow being much more intense than usual. She moved her arms down, and then, she suddenly felt all the air from her body being forced out. She could hardly look down, but as she did, she saw Silver's right glove planted into her stomach. Then suddenly, the pain settled in, and she let out a low groan, lowering her arms a bit as he pushed his glove in.
Things were definitely going to be much more difficult.
