Taking reference from real life is a standard animation practice, I guarantee every professional animation studio is shooting live action reference even when using fictional characters. Using other animators work as reference comes a bit too close to plagiarism for me to be comfortable with, so I use the videos I have.

(Most real mixed wrestling videos are faked and since the actors don’t want strangers touching their ass they don’t struggle that much)

2024-01-13 02:29:20 +0000 UTCThanks, I tried to make it seem more desperate, it is quite difficult as there isn't a lot of reference of people struggling to pull things off their head. Even in live action mixed wrestling vids often there is little actual struggling, and the more competitive matches where they do struggle don't use these types of holds. And animating without reference tends to make a bad result so it takes a while longer.
