Project Vault Game Dev Log 06

Have I left you hanging long enough this month without an update :3c! Got a pretty big one for you all this time around! One of my main focuses this month has been to finally get the ledge system fully working in the game build!! Overall building up the movement systems in the game has become one of my major focuses lately that I really want to start to nail down. Making Bod not only look sleek, but also feel nimble and dexterous!

Here is a bit of a breakdown of what got added to the game and a bit of info on it!

Ledge System: Vertical mobility is something I really want to showcase with Bod. A lot of the levels are going to have some pretty in depth verticality that Bod will need to sneak through and explore, so Bod is going to need to be able to handle that. For now Bod is able to climb up on objects of various sizes, where if it's small enough they will stand on it and if it's taller they will jump into a ledge hang. Once in a ledge hang, bod is capable of shimmying across it and will naturally adapt animation wise if there are footholds for Bod to use. Likewise if there is space for Bod to do so they can also climb up from the ledge hang, or climb down into it! There is a heck of a lot of animation tweaking and blending that I'd like to do to make it a bit cleaner, but I think it's in a good enough state for me to call the system working and move on to new stuff next month! In the future I want to see if I can build on this system a bit with further details like corner turning, grip strength meter, and handrail animations :3!

Mechanic Concepts: Spent a good chunk of my dev time this month also doodling up some of my game mechanics I'd like to introduce, most of which were focused on movement also!

 Likewise I did a pair of docs for the forward roll and dive!

 

 

That pretty much covers the major updates for this month! Next month my focus is going to be on creating some modular training room templates that I can use for future playtests and level development! Going to be doing a lot of texture work to help with all. One of my major milestone goals at this point is to see if I can create a sort of "VR Mission" type of dev build that will help me with my playtesting :3!

Thanks! And listen... you have no idea how much I'm going to enjoy adding in a new wiggle animation when Bod's hips are a little too big to squeeze in quickly XD!!

Gonna be hard to crawl into those crawlspaces when those hips are full of scrap, lol. Solid update! Loving the progress~
