Mind Games

Hi everyone. The days keep slipping by and I didn't want to miss another scheduled check-in. Writing on Jessica's quest is continuing smoothly as are a few last little finishing touches I'm putting to the QoL stuff that I started in the mini-update. Quest Hints and objective reminders should be fully implemented in 0.10 leaving me free to work on other things.

Today's post is a short character study on one of the returning women in this upcoming story, the Alancia's school counsellor, Miss Helena Fafine, a woman we still know little about.

Get out of my head!

With her Mistress's Degree in Psychology, and specialisation in body language and non-verbal communication, Miss Fafine is finely attuned to the girls' mental states and extremely adept at figuring out their weaknesses and insecurities. This makes her more dangerous to our girl's self-esteem than all of the other faculty members combined. She possesses an uncanny ability to zero in on exactly what it is that a girl is most afraid of or sensitive to. Indeed, it is rumoured among some of the more excitable girls that she can literally read minds.

It's for this reason that she feels no need to be as strict and mean to the girls as the teachers and Headmistress. If she wishes to punish or subjugate them, she need not resort to shouting or belittling to do it. She needs nothing more than a few minutes of a girl's time to work out exactly where the pressure points are.

When Missy and Jessica are caught fighting once again, Miss Paris will seek out the help of this extraordinary lady. Placed before her, and ordered to finally resolve their differences, the girls will find out first hand why she is so good at what she does. But that's not to say the feelings she will help to inculcate in them are false. They were there all along, and her job is simply to bring them out.

Miss Fafine will also be playing a role in a number of the other upcoming quests. I mean, what's not to like about a character that can humiliate our girl with the power of her mind alone?
