I think Perrin organized his whole life around Mon's career and even though they had real issues I think he derived a lot of his own self worth from being her husband. I think when she revealed herself and fled Coruscant, even if he avoided the consequences you see that he's completely aimless, that he's drinking and looks completely miserable. He looks like he's given up. Based on an interview with one of the writers, they wrote a concept that they ended up not using or filming where Perrin and Mon have a final conversation and he reveals that he knew a lot about her secret activities and that he'd helped out in small ways. That he'd hoped she would tell him at some point, but she never did. They didn't end up using it, so it's not "canon" but it's a fun concept and it would have been an interesting way to cement the cost of rebellion in Mon's personal life.
